I can get movies and games for 1500LL per DVD

The there is no way I would pay $50 for original DVD. Actually even $10 is a lot, because for $10 I could get 10 pirated DVDs

The only way that I might buy an original game if it cost 10,000LL at most

Did you know that Batman recorded three-day ticket sales of $155.3 million over its first weekend, 8 times more than it cost. say 120 millions goes to distribution, and movie theaters, the producers still made money of the first three days.
I am not telling you that sponge bob costs more i am telling that games cost a lot of money while they have less audience than movies, a movie is played in movie theaters worldwide then sent to to DVDs, the recipes from DVD are marginal, so whatever it fetches is good for the studio. To get the same revenues out of game than a movie a game has to be priced higher than a DVD movie.
The gaming industry grows at rate of 1 billion dollars per year. Your argument doesnt stand.

How is your post related to anything i said? So you want companies to go into business without the objective of growing just because you want to pirate games?
By the way 1 billion growth doesn't give any indication about profits.

True the DRM lameness that's being used on lately released games is turning a huge portion of people from buying the game. DRM is pure BS. It just shows that devs don't trust their fans which adds to the negativity. So far every security check being implemented is getting cracked by pirates so haven't devs realised that it's useless to implement it !

Piracy in developping countries is also due to the lack of availability of legit games. I personally support developpers who create a game thats deserves the money like Relic's Company of Heroes or Blizzard's Warcraft 3 series. The only way I am getting them is via Amazon and then ship them here to Lebanon.

Regarding the issue that Piracy is killing pc games or whether pc gaming is dead is sheer nonsense. Just take a look at services like Steam, Direct2Drive ...etc Steam alone has over 10 million users.
It's just too easy to produce a poor quality game and then blame piracy because it didn't sell well. This is the trend nowadays.

Edit: One of the most anticipated games: Fallout 3 is pirated even before release!

Imagine the newest famous games cost something like 20 euros, will there be room for piracy still?
long overdue reply, but perfectly right.
if game makers would lower their prices by a factor of 5, their sales will increase by a factor of 10 and everybody will come out as a winner. they need to do some more research into the market to get closer to that golden price a game should go for. but if a good game sold for 9.99; what will a bad game sell for then? that's a question to be feared.

i wouldn't mind cracking a 49.99 USD game, but i wouldn't waste my time trying to get hold of a pirated version, let alone crack it, if i could get it for $9.99

I think the gaming industry charges high prices for games (aside from developing costs) because it considers this subject as somewhat inelastic demand. For example, have you guys seen how the Korean audience was gonna have mass orgasms when they were showing sneak peaks of what Starcraft 2 is gonna be like? I had the video of it, but I think i lost it with my old pc. But I'm sure its somewhere online.

i dont think game publishers are gonna make games any cheaper.

they will just try to control more where and how their games get distributed.

in essence, i suppose they will focus more and more on consoles that are a pain in the neck to bypass.

for instance, the PS3 is setting a precedent with its resilence to the hacking/pirating community.

the way things are going, pc games which are the most easily cracked might notice a bigger decline in AAA titles worse than what we are experiencing now.

only RTS games are safe for the pc platform, for now.

but who knows, only time will tell what happens.

but i seriously doubt ever seeing any new original game being sold at 5$ 10$ 15$..

but for now, the online gaming pirates are still busy. and third world countries that can barely afford a loaf of decent bread are not the main concern of game publishers, it's the 'rich' white kids and geeks of the west that are not paying for their games that are costing the publishers the bulk of their money.
