Till now no you can't use it but on ATT SIM since no software was released for the unlock. Once it is, yes sure you can unlock, use any SIM, jailbreak and use Cydia or any Installer.

Well finally a friend of mine *cough* got the new iPhone 3G and he wants to unlock it :) to be used here in Leb.
Any ideas/shops that do that ? What about the do-it-urself tools/guides outthere on the net ?

I got the new one 3 days ago, but with a contract (I actually extended mine) so I don't need to unlock it. As for users in Lebanon, for example, until now no unlocking software has been released. only the activation and the jailbraking softwares so you can use it as an ipod touch (really expensive ipod touch).

I got mine 3 days ago from Rogers and I just love it but the thing is it will cost me alot next months since I had the 16gb version. I guess after that, it will be around 80$ to 100$ plus tax each month.

haha Robbers (that's what we call Rogers).

I got mine from Fido WITHOUT A DATA PLAN. I just renewed my $25/month contract. but if you do this, just make sure you call your phone company and explicitly ask them to block the internet.

That is so true that they are robbers lol

With Fido, how much did you pay the Iphone itself? Is it the same prices than Rogers?

if your plan is less than $30 (like my case), you have to pay 249 or 349 (8Gb-16Gb respectively); otherwise 199-299.

Ok so after all the googling/trying/uninstalling/reinstalling/restoring/restarting/searching, the iphone 3G wont work in Lebanon unless you go a cell shop and they give u like a minichip that you put under your sim card for it to work (though i am not 100% sure that his works also), besides that and up until now all the so called "pwning tools" CANT UNLOCK your iphone 3G for NON-LEGIT sim cards. You can though pawn (not unlock) your 3G iphone in order to use its apps, surf the internet (wifi), itunes . . . but it will show you "no service" in the upper left of the screen (while using non legit sim cards like in Lebanon). So our hope is for the pwning people is to release an update version of their software that UNLOCKS the 3G iphone. Below are some links you might want to keep tracking:
