Very useful thread, made me stick to my 6110 navigator. I was planning on buying an iPhone. I am starting to change my mind !

The V2 needs to be unlocked or not? If yes, would it be some how impossible to do so?

What about the "AT&T" monthly subscription? Is there any subscription or not?

Is it worth buying?

no one knows yet if the 2.0 can be unlocked because it is not released yet, but if you want to get one in the first month I guess you have to subscribe to a data plan and I know, for AT&T, they increased the monthly subscription by $10.

so now the cheapest plan with them is $70/ month while it was $60 last year.

the 2.0 will probably be also distributed by traditional means, i think i read it somewhere but it will be incremental. the first countries to get it will be those who already have it, and then it will roll out in far more countries

I went to the FIDO store today and they told you don't have to get a data plan to get the iphone (so you can use it without the 3G). also you can add $30 to your plan and get 300MB and they have several options up to $100 for 6GB but no unlimited. (each extra 1MB is going to cost $0.50). If that's the case, it is look bad but again that's what the representative told me and I guess we can only make sure that this is right on July 11.

It is certain now that the new iphone will be only avalaible with a contract and most probably a 3 years only.

So unlocking this phone will be an issue as unlockers don't know what to expect yet for the V2 + rarity will increase the prices dramatically.

As far as i heard. The unlocked V2 won't have same price (since it might escape registration or the contract).

Concerning the unlock. Yes, it needs to be unlocked (so far most hackers are saying so), and you can't do so using Itune. Only in store will be unlocked. So still waiting for the release to know how much hackers can do.

Concerning the countries mentioned, i have some info that it is gonna be available in Dubai and few other countries (not mentioned in the list) starting July 15. We might have it in Lebanon end September, mid October.

Again the info is not official, but that's how many are exchanging talks.

IMHO, the iphone whether its generation 1 or generation 15 is till now a failure.

I do agree the iphone is missing some trivial features, but still it is one of the best phones out there.

I-phone is more like a gadget phone thn a smart phone....I prefer HTC.
