As long as the gov owns the two cellular companies in Lebanon,don't dream in having a 3g network.
Just to remember, when private companies used to own the cellular,GPRS and 2g was available in Lebanon b4 most of european countries.

I am going to buy the V1 iPhone for myself now.....

I heard the V2 will be available in stores in September ? Released in Apple stores in July 11....

The thing is I badly need a phone as my imate jasjar has gone mad.... and I am seconds away from crashing it in a wall....

And I have someone coming from the US end of June, so he can get me an iPhone V1 8GB....

I think it being thinner, and the fact that 2.0 software will be available for V1 in July 11, it would be a good choice to get the V1, to get the thinner phone, plus all the 2.0 updates with the exception of 3G technology which has no value in Lebanon.

The new iphone will not need to be unlocked as it will be compatible with the European market and usually our market doesn't conflict with Europe.

yep..
but it seems that to get the new V2 iPhone, you need to subscribe (directly in the shop) an AT&T contract, while with the V1, you currently subscribe via iTunes.
So you might be able to unlock it, but you still have to pay AT&T on a monthly basis

I have to note that there is a big chance that the version 1 iphone prices might increase because:
1) V1 has been sold out since March so if you want to buy one it is going to be used (most probably unless you find some on ebay)

2) V1 is unlocked but it MIGHT take more than 2 months to unlock V2 (as happened when the 1.1.2 update was released), and thus their prices might increase. ( I have V1 and I refrained from selling mine now although I going to get the V2)

3)If you get V2 and it was still not unlockable, you will end up with a relatively expensive ipod ( and this is only the best case scenario)

Shevchenco, V1 prices did go a lot higher, I am getting mine as used though.

It is unlocked, and I will install third party software, and once V2 software is available, I will install it to update my V1 iPhone with a V2 software.

My question is, the unlocking is a software issue ? I mean once I unlock the V1 if its not already unlocked, when I install the V2 update, will I have to unlock again ?

yes you do. the new update (2.0) for the V1 should be available on July 11 but you have to wait for the unlockers to find a way to update to 2.0 and keep the phone unlocked; that's why we had to wait for more than 2-3 months to update to 1.1.2 although it was released.

Also, I heard that unlocking the new update is going to be harder, I hope not but people are saying that apple worked really hard om making their software way more secure probably that's why they haven't released a new update for more than 4 months even though they used to release one every 2 months.
