router has nothing to do with DSL aDSL or cable, as long as you can get internet without a router to one PC, you can add a router and have a NAT for multi-computers | | | | | Registered Member

You DSL, aDSL, cable or whatever provider you have will give you a modem not a router, there are modems that are routers too, but you better just have a standalone router for easier configuration without messing with the modem | | | | | Registered Member

hayda asdeh ...... | NONONONO just let the guy install the DSL on your computer, get your router (any router works, I suggest d-link bc i use it and its easy to install and cheap, shi 40-50 bucks) now the router unit comes with an installation CD, what you do is connect one cable from your computer to the router, and another one from your router to the DSL unit (DSL comes with one cable and router comes with one) then place the CD, in the manual you will see an IP adress that you should visit using your internet browser, this adress lets you put up a password for your router... and thats it !... if u check the page of specifications it work with vista and xp sp2 while i have xp sp3 , it should work since sp3 is just an upgrade of sp2 sa7 ?
w ba3ed sou2al , i read this
Recommended System Requirements
• For Optimal Wireless Performance:
Use with Wireless N Adapter (DWA-130)
so i will have to buy an adapter with the router too ????
Dlink DWA-140 USB Wireless N Lan Adapter 300MB/s $44.00
dwa-130 doesn't exist in pcandparts list anyway.....but with a dwa wireless N adapter , that's an extra 50$
ye3neh back to the 100$ | The operating system you have has nothing to do with the router, the OS requirements are just for the easy setup CD that comes with it. Anyway, you can just connect to it using your browser and configure it. You will have to buy a DSL modem anyway from the ISP which will be connected to your router. the DLINK is a 3 in 1 machine: router (forwards the internet to the clients), switch (wired connection) and wireless access point. the N means you get a longer range for your wireless in case your wireless card supports it (mostly available in new laptops, 1 or 2 years old). But i assume the B/G wireless standards are also available in case your card doesn't support N. You don't need the DLINK wireless adapter, it is just a marketing propaganda | | | | | Orange Room Moderator

The N wireless adapter is ****. You don't need it. If it is a new laptop, most probably your wireless network card supports a N-draft. Just buy yourself a regular G router and you are right for buying a linksys. D-Link is garbage IMO.
I could recommend you a N-router in case you live in a house, by house I mean not a regular apartment, as houses in Leb are made in concrete which could reduce the range.
The one I could suggest you is the WRT54G or one of its variants. | | | | | Registered Member
