Well you dont have to be a science geek to join our dialogue. You think I am a one? Well I know exactly who would be interested, I wonder where they are rambling now?

here we are

the article is really interesting, and it really raises the question of the differences existing between religion and science. For example in this case cloning the man of shroud would really be a disaster to christianity regardless of weather the DNA found belongs to Jesus Christ or not.

science is supposed to improve what is already there or create something that would help humanity, it is not supposed to destroy what is already existing.

In this way i can say that technology devides. science has lately created many controversial issues, the worst is that technology needs to be in the hands of responsible people, which is not always the case

This is the main point I guess.

About cloning, and technology vs. religion... Its a thread in itself. But my two cents on it is that religion & science, if you look deep enough, are saying similar things, just differently, leading to similar conclusions. Again its a long subject in itself, but I'll say this much using the religion the majority in this forum seem to belong to: Father & Son & Holy Spirit = One God Amen. The priest tells you, based on the religion, that that's highly metaphorical, representing many things in the world as 'One'. Science tell us that essentially all atoms in everything are the same, its just their different formations once put together that gives a tree vs. a human. ------ One is Many & Many is One.

"The atom is the basic building block of all matter. It is the smallest unit that has all the properties of one particular element. Atoms make up the human body; plants and animals;air and water; and all of the planets, stars and galaxies in the universe." Source: www.pantex.com/education/instructorsmanual.pdf pp.3

Not to mention the big bang theory.. all was 'One', BOOM, dispersed fireballs, some froze, made planets, on this one life started at some point, etc.

Bref, I think we are still very far from even having a clue about what this whole charade/puzzle (scientifically speaking) is all about called life. Any new technologies, going back a bit to the point of this thread, whether we chose to view them as 'bad' or 'good', divide or unify, would still be a relative judgement by far - given how far we know we are from the truth (remember in science, we rely on fact about what we know not belief...). Therefore, any new technology is good because its a step closer towards our overall understanding of all 'This' around us. A step closer to understanding God, since he's all this around us in religious terms.. Killo byirbah ma3na wou ma3 tico tac, lyom

When we start believing that we know mostly just about everything, the time until we get there I leave to your discretion, perhaps then, technology might risk truly dividing.

Perfect description of fractals, the basic pattern of our universe.

I think the basic building block is far more smaller than the atoms, it could be maybe the strings, but this needs yet further research.

This theory is highly debated, I think the scientists are very divided regarding this theory.

I think the more we discover the more new questions would be raised, new mysteries, we would create new theories, maybe also give some mathemathical applications, but in the end we would face the main problem again: we can not describe or observe the universe independently from our instruments. Therefore our observations would always contain errors and misinterpretations.

Ennoo.. I'm not sure about you but I prefer to limit my 'I think' sentences to the evaluation of facts not for stating them.

About the "Killo byirbah ma3na wou ma3 tico tac, lyom", perhaps re-reading the paragraph until 'byirbah ma3na'. The rest was just a joke based on an old advertisement for a local lebanese lottery card: "Jarrib hazzak btirbah ma3na wou ma3 tico tac lyom!".
