I use tor router for security purposes, when i need to browse anonymously or connect to any server anonymously, so nobody can find the real source of the connection (also my ip address).
Some Tor properties from tor docs:
1. Tor only protects Internet applications that are configured to send their traffic through Tor — it doesn't magically anonymize all your traffic just because you install it. We recommend you use Firefox with the Torbutton extension.
2. Torbutton blocks browser plugins such as Java, Flash, ActiveX, RealPlayer, Quicktime, Adobe's PDF plugin, and others: they can be manipulated into revealing your IP address. For example, that means Youtube is disabled. If you really need your Youtube, you can reconfigure Torbutton to allow it; but be aware that you're opening yourself up to potential attack. Also, extensions like Google toolbar look up more information about the websites you type in: they may bypass Tor and/or broadcast sensitive information. Some people prefer using two browsers (one for Tor, one for unsafe browsing).
3. Beware of cookies: if you ever browse without Tor and a site gives you a cookie, that cookie could identify you even when you start using Tor again. Torbutton tries to handle your cookies safely.
4. Tor anonymizes the origin of your traffic, and it encrypts everything between you and the Tor network and everything inside the Tor network.
For downloading Tor: Tor: Download
Hope this helps | Ok I've downloaded Tor. The name of the downloaded software is Vidalia? I opened the Vidalia Control Pannel. I clicked on "Use A New Identity" but my IP remained unchanged.
Please notify me of what I'm doing wrong over here.
Many thanks. | | | | | Registered Member

So basically that is not the software I need.
I've done a bit of research and found out that what I need is to deal with proxies. I have downloaded ProxyFirewall but I still do not know where to get proxies from nor how to use the software effectively.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance. | | | | | Registered Member

Any ideas? Thanks in advance. | TOR or even other proxy servers constantly change you IP address all of the time, TOR never sticks to one IP address, each time you communicate with the server it assigns for you a new IP address, and your real IP address is never revealed. Maybe you just find it a bit complicated to understand the way these proxies work.
One more thing you should be aware about, some servers keep you login session according to the IP address, so every time the IP address is changed you may be required to login again. It's just a note, I don't know again how ur gaming server works.
How do u access your gaming server? Is there a desktop application that you download? Or is it through web browser? Do you have a your own local network at home? or your computer is connected directly to the internet? | | | | | Registered Member

Try to log in in any room. The maximum sign ins per room simultaneously is 2 usernames. I was able to get past this restriction thanks to Hotspot Shield. The thing is that it allows me to sign in with an extra 2 only. What I need is somehow unlimited simultaneous sign ins.
Thanks again. | | | | | Registered Member

25th August 2009
Hello everybody......
I was wondering if Ogero's DSL connection has a low ping compared to the other ISPs in Lebanon. For example, using my IDM 512 kbps connection, I was able to get a ping of 475 ms when trying to connect to a server located in Paris. However, a friend of mine told me that she got a ping of 170 ms on her Ogero connection.
Can someone confirm if that is true?
Note: I used the speedtest.net website to assess my ping when testing with the Paris server.

all private ISP's are using Ogero's infrastructure to connect to the internet. Ogero's clients have the priority over others when it comes to latency. I have friends with Ogero, they get better latency's usually than me when playing WoW... However if the private ISP is not suffering from bottlenecks, their clients shouldn't face any problems. Cyberia did something with my account that significantly reduced my latency, it became comparable to Ogero's.
I have no idea about their infrastructure, so I can't get into details... | | | | | Registered Member

| Not totally true, at least not in download, some ISPs make "some" plans's download via Satellite which is the reason why users get delay around 450ms. While Ogero (being the monopoly) having all the fibers it needs, make "all" (as far as i know) their customers up/down via fiber, thats when u get delay below 250ms.
PS:
-satellite is much cheaper than fiber
-satellite gives higher delay than fiber (fiber is better)
-what you hear on the news as "E1" is actually 2Mbps fiber optic | | | | | Registered Member
