Hey guys.....
This is getting really annoying.....
I have a DSL connection from IDM (512kbps) through a Speedtouch v546 (latest firmware of 6.2).
I have been trying since ages to open up ports in the modem to allow much greater access for my PS3 on PSN and its not working.
I have tried everything.
I connected my PS3 directly to my modem through an ethernet cable and gave it a static IP address and opened up the ports to that address and nothing happens (NAT type remains type 3).
I also tried putting my PS3 under DMZ (i.e. assign a public IP address) but that didn't work either (I guess that's something IDM doesn't allow).
I'm sure there is a way because I do have an old connection with Pesco and IDM (the wireless broadband thing) and when connected to my PS3, it gives me a NAT type 2 connection.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
As a side note, there is no difference between any NAT type in terms of lag. However, having a NAT type 1 or 2 would entail much greater access to the net, i.e. you can find much more online games (be it on PS3, X360, PC), much more stable connections and much more P2P speeds, i.e. limewire and others would perform much better. | | | | | Community Team Leader

| Hi,
If you have residential DSL (which i assume you do), then you don't have a public IP reserved for you so you can't assign one on your modem or laptop/pc. For the normal setup, the speedtouch is configured to assign IPs via DHCP (192.168.1.x) so you can't assign a static IP like you did on your PS3 (unless you have reconfigured the modem not to give automatic IP via DHCP, and if you did you can configure a "fake" ip from range 192.168.1.x and not public IP on your PS3). Also note that the modems in normal cases have the firewall option configured as "off". So the blocking is not coming from the modem itself IMO. Do you know by any chance the port number that the PS3 uses to connect to the internet? | | | | | | | Tags | 360, anti, avira, capturing, card, cases, cheap, cibo, computer, connecting, connection, content, dealing, designing, disc, dsi, dsl, dvd, encoding, error, fix, geek, hosting, integration, internet, ips, laptop, magic, make, mini, mobile, movies, mtc, nat, network, newbies, nintendo, nokia, note, ogero, online, opening, payment, phone or mtc, player, problem, problems, ps3, q or a, question, quiet, real, sites, thing, thread, video, virus, web, website, weird, wifi, worth, xbox | |
