Get a Linux CD install it and get rid of all these troubles

Check ur power plan:

after the format try to get diskeeper, it keeps ur hard drive fragmented automatically and u won't probably notice it is working. I have had it on my XP desktop for 2.5 years in a row until now. It will keep your drive healthy and your Windows faster.
