Is there any way to run chkdsk without rebooting the system on Vista? or any other tool that can fix the errors on my drive without a reboot? it is my business laptop and chkdsk won't start on boot, Vista boots normally so I guess the company IT has some security regarding this... anyway, any ideas? | | | | | Registered Member

If checkdisk is not working on reboot, you may wanna check this, seems people had the same problem and managed to solve it using method 4. Check Disk - chkdsk - Vista Forums
Another good suggestion is to run checkdisk manually from CMD before booting.. here's how to http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/19...t-startup.html

IA64,
I didn't want to get into details about this laptop, but now it seems I need to, it wasn't a newbie question. I can not boot any CD or USB, BIOS is a custom firmware by the IT and also that method of using F8 to get into command prompt isn't available on my laptop, already tried that. I was just asking if there's any way to fix the errors while the disc is mountable. I also can't remove the drive and plug it in somewhere else as secondary to fix it, as all the while hard disk is encrypted... I will give that registry method a try... | | | | | Registered Member

My company has also applied almost the same policies which is driving the employees crazy. Still I havent migrated my laptop to the new image so still enjoying some privilieges. Maybe we are working for the same company? | | | | | Registered Member

I am not sure the forum rules allows us to mention where we work? I don't think so anyway, the company i work for provides me with their own laptop, all employees worldwide using same image, same laptop series, and the encryption software runs before Vista I think. The glory of memorizing a bunch of passwords and carrying code generators, a little too much exaggerated. I don't have the privilege of buying my own laptop and use it... Well at some point I can understand them, it makes it easier for them to run the IT support desk and handle drivers, security patches, etc, whichever country I am in support is easier... unless I am stuck in a country where local IT support isn't available to do that for me
All I know is my laptop hard disk is giving me a hard time and I can't do anything about it, I hope it survives till I go back to Beirut and send it to IT department for a format... | | | | | Registered Member

Get their latest AV signature database from Here You won't have to extract it, just go to Update---Manual Update and locate the rar/zip file you downloaded, it should update to the latest definitions release date which is 6/7 November, from now on it should do automatic update just fine, this is usually caused by slow connection or slow update servers, always had this problem after a fresh avira install and that's the only way to fix it. btw it's the best run time detection antivirus out there. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to SputNik For This Useful Post: | | | | | Tags | 360, anti, avira, capturing, card, cases, cheap, cibo, computer, connecting, connection, content, dealing, designing, disc, dsi, dsl, dvd, encoding, error, fix, geek, hosting, integration, internet, ips, laptop, magic, make, mini, mobile, movies, mtc, nat, network, newbies, nintendo, nokia, note, ogero, online, opening, payment, phone or mtc, player, problem, problems, ps3, q or a, question, quiet, real, sites, thing, thread, video, virus, web, website, weird, wifi, worth, xbox | |
