ptt or push to talk, used to transmit voice from a mobile phone to another.
works as a walkie talkie, still not available in lebanon, (i don't think it's banned) but shortage of equipments, upgrades from the two companies that run the GSM sector.

The ministry hates free talking Remember?

I don't think the PTT needs equipements (expensive and rare ones)... the Talkie Walkie games costs 5 000 L.L... in any supermarket

PTT is not banned, and as Ogeorge mentioned it need equipments and infrastructure upgrade.

The networks we have in Lebanon in case of anything happening in Lebanon they go down instantly on the load of calls. MTC have started the network upgrade with Motorola but that wouldnt be enough as major changes need it.

LOL man, just a question, why the hell would you want to use a walkie talkie on your PHONE? That's the whole purpose of the phone. TO TALK AND LISTEN.

hehehe imagine, it's like taking a camera and recording what the TV is showing, and then watch it on the camera. :P

Ouuu now I see. But it's better without it, so that I can still use the "no units" excuse. Even if it's my neighbor hehe

Dude

You should fight for getting DSL, then you can use wireless VoIP
then dump the phone and the cell together

although the idea is good but the application is not that accurate.

Even in the countries surrounding Lebanon that has the fastest infrastructure network such as Jordan and KSA the usage of VoIP is at minimum and used mostly for internet calling.

The lack of public wireless networks maybe the main coz that why the presence of the GSM networks made it easy to introduce PTT in low rates.

Lebanon has 2 or 3 facilities using full VoIP system for internal communication and also mobile ones. (within the company).

I tried PPT in Dubai. It is a very cool service. In Dubai they were using it as a trial period at the time and was free of charge at the time.
