I was wondering what are the reasons behind our high ping times and what does it cost the ISPs to provide us with the ping we are supposed to have like all the countries around the world!?

Exactly I was wondering the same.
As previously stated our traffic passes through satellite which adds a great deal of latency. We need someone to explain to us what the infrastructure is and how it works here in lebanon.

I will be emailing terranet to check on the limitations of this issue. (I'm sure I wont be getting any replies or if I do it will be something very unuseful :) )
I am fine with the monthly bandwidth quota but at least let them provide us with a decent latency.

The reason is because all the uploads should pass through ogero ,than from ogero to cyprus by a fiber optic wire .There are currently 3 wires in the sea only two operating one for the uploads and one for the downloads and the 3rd(not in service) to backup the other 2 .When the 3rd wire operates there will be less traffic and better pings. Here most of the ISPs take the downloads through satellites which will double the pings and make it worse .
Solutions :
Another route from turkey to Lebanon through Syria(fiber optics).
Or legalize uploads to satellites .

It seems Cyberia have the best pings. I tried my friends connection during the day and he had an average of 180-200ms which is amazing.
It seems I get low pings with terranet only after 11 pm which is when we get free bandwidth.

At university it was something like 5-6 Mega Bytes /s (40-50 Mbits/s)
they were planning to get a 130 megs bandwidth :) too bad I left before having this opportunity !

btw the speed test result may vary depending on the time you make it , for example here's an earlier test:

I checked the ping of Ogero's DSL connection at a friend's place, it was stable at 150ms.

Impressive.
