Default Lebanese Internet situation (only facts) - 2 Weeks Ago

Teodor Georgiev has been working for several months on a project that shows/explains how easy, quick and cheap it is to bring a great relief to the Lebanese Internet situation. I am trying to show it to as much people as
possible in order to open their eyes and make them vulnerable to the lies of everyone. Here is the URL:

http://tg.spnet.net/Lebanon-Internet-project.doc

In 2006, VISP got 60 lines from Ogero and ran free dial-up access.

Yes, free dial-up access V90 56K, the first and only one in Lebanon. If you do not believe, or doubt this, please ask around, you will find people who know about it and even use it (I can give a list of 6000 phone numbers who have been used it at least once). Till now it is working and may be tested, the number is 1620, username: visp, password: demo. Stay as much as you want, it is unlimited, no requirements at all - no advertising, banners, restrictions, politics and stuff...

As you may guess, it is mostly used by very poor people, or people from very rural villages where no other access is available at all.

When Jubran Bassil came to power one of his first actions was to stop this. WHY - NO IDEA... He started to send "missionaries" from his ministry to explain that HIS WILL is to have these ports closed by us "You close, else..."

In order to prove the above words, just check the link of the Lebanese MPT with the list of all ISPs and their dial-up numbers:

Ministry Of Telecommunications

Check what stays against VISP --> not available yet

Here is a link from the VISP news:

Virtual ISP - Broadband Internet Provider

Here is a snapshot of the Lebanese MPT website from the time
when Bassil was not yet a minister (check the date):

Ministry Of Telecommunications

(yes, the phone 1620 is present, at least the phone)

Quoted from Teodor Georgiev website.

Funny how this fellow is quick to criticize Bassil for not improving the internet situation in his brief tenure as minister but makes no mention of it under Marwan Hamade's corruption-wrought, assinine helm.

You had 8 years if my memory serves me well. Before it was Syria to blame, then
Israel, now who is to blame???

What did Marwan Hamadeh do for all these years, besides stealing and injecting his
son into WISE board of directors (and of course giving WISE a helping hand all
the time?) .

*this is from the Internet project doc file, you had to read it but all what made you reply is reading Bassil name somewhere in the post... Typical lebanese mentality.

WISE are throttling their connection from 11pm to 3 am, peak time for downloading when quota doesn't register, my connection barely loads simple html sites.

It is done mostly because ISP's didn't got expected bandwidth upgrades and they are out of capacity.
