Hi all,
It has been a long time since I've done some research on hardware, I hear the news but when it comes to picking my own I get confused. My last bought laptop had the Centrino technology... I travel a lot, and I always have to carry my business laptop which is of course useless for gaming. I was thinking of buying a personal laptop to carry it with my business one while traveling. Even when I am in Lebanon, I don't have a place to put a desktop...
Main reason behind this is gaming, last decent game I could run was COD 4 modern warfare, and poorly played it with bad graphics. So here's what i am looking for:
- not a desktop replacement, 15" max
- good for gaming and it will handle next year's games
- Windows 7
- cpu and memory suitable for simulations and similar scientific/engineers tasks, so I don't have to wait days and days for results
- durable laptop so i can have a peace of mind for a couple of years
- I am allergic to Toshiba, probably a bad experience when I was a child gave me a toshibaphobia
My questions:
- ATI and Nvidia... ATI is still a failure when it comes to reputation? what's the newest models for laptops that can support games that require a fair amount of processing resources?
- 64-bit: is 64bit operating systems backward compatible with 32-bit software? (i don't mean drivers)
- is it really useful to have quad core or duo core if the applications are not programmed to take advantage of multiple processors?
I think that's it for now, any clarification or laptop suggestion is appreciated...
