This laptop plays whatever game you throw at it! It is made for gaming/entertainment (4 built-in speakers & 1 subwoofer !!!!!!!) and i find the price quite reasonable for the laptop's sepcs.
It beats me why people buy a gaming laptop, i mean what's the point, where do you play on a gaming laptop? do you take it and go to Dunkin and play a game there? the max you can get is a 17 inch screen which is not big enough to play a game and too big to carry around and if you end up connecting it to another screen so why not get a desktop for that? I will end up heating like hell anyway since it has all this hardware crammed in a small box. If you absolutely need a laptop to drag around without the need to play games on it, get a small netbook or even a 15 inch laptop with integrated video. It costs less than 500$ then get another powerful desktop and both will cost you less than that gaming laptop and if you aboslutely need access to you desktop in the other room while you are sitting in dunkin with your notebook, use remote access.

We spend hours upon hours, my friends and i, at uni playing COD4, RA3, SUPCOM, Starcraft, all without our gaming laptops would have been impossible to play. And because of laptops containing stronger and stronger gpu's, more and more people are joining in our lan sessions. A 4 on 4 COD4 match in uni is a daily habit, something which without the gaming laptops wouldnt have been.

Marketing is the science of convincing the stupid to pay a much higher price than the intrinsic price.

Default Laptop for Gaming AND Travel - 2 Weeks Ago

Hi all,
It has been a long time since I've done some research on hardware, I hear the news but when it comes to picking my own I get confused. My last bought laptop had the Centrino technology... I travel a lot, and I always have to carry my business laptop which is of course useless for gaming. I was thinking of buying a personal laptop to carry it with my business one while traveling. Even when I am in Lebanon, I don't have a place to put a desktop...

Main reason behind this is gaming, last decent game I could run was COD 4 modern warfare, and poorly played it with bad graphics. So here's what i am looking for:

- not a desktop replacement, 15" max
- good for gaming and it will handle next year's games
- Windows 7
- cpu and memory suitable for simulations and similar scientific/engineers tasks, so I don't have to wait days and days for results
- durable laptop so i can have a peace of mind for a couple of years
- I am allergic to Toshiba, probably a bad experience when I was a child gave me a toshibaphobia

My questions:
- ATI and Nvidia... ATI is still a failure when it comes to reputation? what's the newest models for laptops that can support games that require a fair amount of processing resources?
- 64-bit: is 64bit operating systems backward compatible with 32-bit software? (i don't mean drivers)
- is it really useful to have quad core or duo core if the applications are not programmed to take advantage of multiple processors?

I think that's it for now, any clarification or laptop suggestion is appreciated...

- ATI is as good as Nvidia with their new GPU onboard and the crossfire setup vs SLI. Some ATI cards sh!t on Nvidia. But Nvidia still got a higher reputation due to popularity.

-64bit OS can handle any 32-bit software, as long as you are not planning to use 16bits applications ( i doubt you're going to)

- Windows7 64-bit will take advantage of the Quad Core processors for multitasking and of the SSD technology by using TRIM feature.

No question, Quad processors are a must nowaday for multitasking.

cheers.
