I would recommend Toshiba and HP, and always stay away from Acer, you have a 9/10 chance that it would suck!

I don't like Vaio at all, I know 5 persons who got one and it quickly broke!
I have a 19" Sony Vaio, 2 years old and still working perfectly.

All i can tell you GMA Forever is to Avoid the Acer one's, not because they are cheap, but the quality is real bad and the warranty is for only one year,,,god know what happens later

My rates:
Toshiba first
HP second
Sony Vaio third

do not buy another thing
I bought acer to my daughter cause she needs it for her university and it has vista program it keeps freezing and soo slow its a total disaster i wish i asked your opinion before i bought it now they won't refund my money and i feel upset..i was told that if i delete vista program put window xp will make it better but some other people disagree saying will worsen things..so i am confused what to do????

lady removing vista and installing xp matra7o is not as easy as you may think
you need the appropriate drivers
and yes if u have drivers you will notice a big improvement in performance ,especially if ur computer is not efficient enough to run vista
ana i have a laptop that can handle vista easily and i removed it men awwal ma jebto

IMHO If you need those laptops for your office then the best choice would be to get HP Compaq notebooks..

But my personnal preference is MAC since they are the most secure ones. Dont buy anything that is called dell or any cheap brands since they all are super slow.

why is there so much people against Toshiba ?! has anyone who doesn't like toshiba tried it before and found out that its bad ?!

i have a toshibaA200/Vista its works amazing! it just doesn't support new games that require lots of graphics rams and stuff, because its 3 years old!

photoshop, illustrator, indesign, autocad, 3ds max, maya all work great on it!

90% students in my major (architecture) have Toshibas and everyone is satisfied with it!

so anyone who wants to buy a Laptop for work/uni/home, i suggest they get a Toshiba!
HPs are also great, and from the people i know that have Viaos, all of them complain about it! Acer is good for a cheap laptop, Dells are also good, Macs are for the high class citizens,

in the end whatever Laptop you get, if you don't take care of it inside out, you'll never gona like it

Icon9 best laptop for graphics... help needed - 22nd July 2009

i'm thinking of buying a new laptop... I need a laptop for my work, Graphic Design / Animation (Digital Media)

I know most of you will suggest getting a Macintosh machine, but I can't afford it... and no for a normal macbook, macbook pro is a minimum when it comes to mac.

budget is maximum 1200$... what do you suggest?

additional needs:

  • NO HEAT! (my laptop's current temperature is around 40*c and is about to burn my hands)
  • Huge hard drive(s)
  • 4 GB RAM
  • Powerful VGA
  • Doesn't not explode (VGA) while Rendering is a must
thanks for your help.
