I'm concerning about this issue as I'm getting a case for my iPhone 3GS soon..can anybody ensure they are the same?

And is there any website selling iPhone 3G cases talking about this issue?

My friend installed the new Iphone version on his Iphone 3G. The main improvement of the software are the following :
- FAster (when you launch an application)
- Video recording
- Better camera (photo processing)

For the hardware, it will be not very different. However the new iphone 3GS have a compass. I think it will be great specially if you have 3G internet access and you use the GPS. Using the compass you are able to have more accurate directions (better street view visualization)

I think the compass is the only thing that could change in the iphone 3GS. Otherwise, you can have all new functionalities on the iphone 3 G without any problem.

PS: they said that the bluetooth is more "open" but we couldn't connect another phone to the iphone. You must see if the bluetooth hardware of the 3GS is different.

The new Firmware 3.0 does not have a video recorder, and same camera with little difference on how to take the shots.

The processing: it is not related to the firmware (3.0); surely the 3.0 fixed some bugs but mostly this speed is related to the capacity of the new 3GS.. since it comes with 16GB and 32. No 8Gs anymore! That's why you will notice that the 3gS is much faster than the 3G.

The size: The 3GS has the exact same size and back cover as the 3G no changes as external look..so yes the cover will fit good..

The compass is not part of the hardware it is an APP, btw u can add it for free to ur 3G from app store. Same case as for the Voice Memo (newly added) and Voice Control (also newly added) all are applications.

Incorrect; the major change is the 3 MEGAPIX camera.. not mentioning the cool tricks added to the FW..

Same, Iphone bluetooth does not connect with other than apples for security purposes.. the 3.0 allows u to connect ur bluetooth to stereo devices, and not exchange pics or songs with Nokias or watever..


For 3G users who are interested in the 3.0 here are the major changes:

- Modem updated
- Search option, you can use it to search all over the phone
- Select; Select all; cut; copy; paste
- Double touch to highlight a link or a phone number in the sms text
- Call logs are wider.. you can check missed calls or received with their timings
- Shake ur iphone to shuffle (ipod)
- Shake ur iphone to undo (any text)
- SMS sending bar smaller and on its upper side.. you can send 2 sms same time.
- Forward and Edit messages for ur sms
- Keyboard when smsing can rotate landscaping for better view (arabic language enabled)
- Edge.. GPS and WIFI
- Log to ur APP store directly via an application
- Some changes when LAPPING or timing..(Chronometer)
- Voice memo app.
- Installer is no longer valuable ICY is now available to replace.
- You can jailbreak
- You can unlock

For 3G users. Apple released the 3.1 FW.. It is not yet safe to update to this firmware, since it is gonna update your modem, thus losing your jailbreak and your unlock (yet no soft solution for both - Jailbreak and unlock)..

That's what happened to me, i updated the firmware to 3.0 and jailbreak it using redsn0w and the modem didn't get updated apparently and i really got sick of trying to fix that thing.

Once your restore to 3.0, the modem firmware gets updated same time. Your modem should be showing 4.26 version.

What's the problem you are facing exactly? Since u r on 3.0 and redsnowed it.. umm

3GS users running 3.0 FW can jailbreak and unlock using Red and Ultra (same as the 3G)
