Is it a quick process to switch from ADSL with one of the regular ISPs, to ADSL or HDSL with Ogero?

If you have connections.. You can do it in less than 24 hours..

I switched from VISP to Ogero finally ( R.I.P VISP). I payed at Bir Hassan and got the serviced activated the next day.

I know people who are still waiting in line since more than 2 weeks..

connections make wonders..

Btw, I am more than satisfied with Ogero. 9 Days uptime since I got it and still not even a disconnection from MSN. Latency is around 150ms and stable even at peak hours.. I don't need more than 5GB/5GB a month.. I can download huge files at work..

Is it true that the DSL speed is affected by the distance between the end-user and the central office?

yes

in canada it means that if u are distant and u bought a 8mb line from ur isp, u might get 5 mb or even 1mb if u are really distance from them

in lebanon in means u still get a shtty connection of pseudo 256/512 kilobytes regardless if u are close or distant

science..

Things getting worse btw. Lebanon is in extreme hunger for bandwidth, i have multiple clients who work over other ISP's (other than VISP, this is my personal part-time job :-D ), everywhere is heavy packetloss at peak time. Seems almost all ISP's out of bw.
Ogero start blocking VoIP also.
