Depends on what ur going to use it for.

Its one small machine though, using a very small intel cpu titled "Atom", that requires like 8 watts of power to run heh.

i dont think for the 400 $ you get the solid state hard drive. we had that debate before, it depends on what you really want it for.

its an ultralight travelling machine that is good for office work (word processing, sheets, etc...) and email access.

no more no less.

yes i am using one... Lebanon price for the eeepc 4G model is 440$ available in the market 4 colors.

The specs for this price are a 4GB Solid State HDD and a 512MB RAM. I used the Linux on it for couple of weeks it was great but very limited for the things i was using it for. So i installed XP with SP3 on it using a method posted on the net and the PC good but not as fast as linux + not allot of free space so i had to use a 4GB SD card that went great.

Battery and WIFI are excellent by the way. The total weight while in its sleeve + adapter is 1kg.

Its basic use is email, internet and office not more and it works great, i am waiting for the newer model that has a bit bigger screen from the 7"... colors are good and screen is good.

check this site also with many info on the eeepc: www.eeeuser.com

BEWARE!

Main problem of this cute gadget is that its memory is formatted into 2 compartments.

-A 4 gigs compartment for windows XP (sp2)
-An 8 Gigs compartment for other applications.

And...The 4 gigs compartment is too small and would barely take Windows and few of its applications and updates...Then it begins to tilt:"low disk space"!!!

Typical testimonies

"The problem started about two weeks ago, after I started to load a lot of ****. The "fast" SSD is 4GB on this thing, and slower SSD has 8GB. The fast SSD is assigned as the main disk "C" so all Windows files and a lot of the programs are in "C" drive. 4GB is barely enough to retain the configuration as it came from the factory, and not enough for adding something like MS Office even after OpenOffice and MS Works and all the other software that I don't use have been deleted. I had to install most of my programs to "D" and reassigned "My Document" folder to "D", and compress "C" drive to get about 1GB of free space. However, the precious free space on C drive is slowly but surely been eaten and now I see my free space on "C" as 700MB. I've upgraded my memory to 2GB (it was very, very easy I must say) and I don't have my swap file in C or system restore, and I don't keep trashed file, and my browser cache is minimal. But a lot of applets have been installed and a lot of application data are in "C", and that eats up HD space little by little. It's working fine so far, but the amount of free space on "C" is a constant worry when I use this little laptop."

"ASUS put the WinXP OS on the 4GB C: drive with too many other things and that leaves too little room for updates and the like that the OS wants to install there. I made the initial mistake of putting Outlook 2003, Office 2000 and Firefox 3 on C: and finally scrapped them, uninstalled and reinstalled to D: where there was almost 8 GB of unused space (thus the 12GB total)"

Alternative:

ASUS Eee PC 1000H 80G

Specifications
Specifications

* Internal memory: 80 GB hard disk drive (HDD)
* RAM: 1 GB DDR2
* Processor: 1.6 GHz Intel Atom
* Memory expansion: Slot for MMC/SD(SDHC) cards
* Operating system: Windows XP Home
* LCD: 10.2 inches, 1024 x 600 pixels
* Networking: Tri-mode Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n), 10/100 Fast Ethernet
* Peripheral connectivity: Three USB 2.0
* External video: One VGA
* External audio: One headphone and one microphone port
* Webcamera: Yes, 1.3 megapixels
* Battery: 6 cells, up to 7 hours
* Weight: 3.19 pounds (51 ounces)
* Dimensions: 10.5 × 7.5 × 1.5 inches

The ASUS Eee PC 1000H 80G differs from its predecessor by:

1-Hard drive,instead of solid slate.(But no real incidence either on heat or on speed)

2-80 Gigs instead of 12 Gigs.

3-10 inches screen that seems to be amazingly more comfortable than the previous 8.9 inches.

4-More weight.(3.19 pounds instead of 2.42 pounds....but testimonies show that the improvement is worth the extra-weight)

Advice:
Whatever the model you buy,make sure to get the 2 GB DDR2.It costs only around 40 USD and you can personally install it in a very practical way, in less than 5 minutes....And it's dam* worth it!

Oh...And i almost forgot...

It is equipped with the new intel atom processor.

Well,it's not a hot shot and Intel confirmed that Silverthorne/Atom is half the performance of the Celeron.

Here is a little graphic that shows its ranking:

But again...You won't need more for what you are buying it...And don't ask for a super-Laptop when you buy an ASUS Eee PC...It is worth what it has been made for...And it is the leader in its category.

Good luck.
