Why not go hybrid?
Some need laptops, so give it to them ... others are okay with desktops, so give it to them too.
What is it that you require and laptops have it more than desktops? Because I can see that for the same specs, you can get much cheaper desktops.

Care to elaborate?

It depends on what you need. If you know that you will be only working in the office, then why do you need laptops? desktops are fine and you'll be able to save some money since they're cheaper, + they're usually easier to upgrade (HW). For an office I personaly prefer a desktop with a large screen. You can always get laptops with docking stations so that you can work on a large screen.

Why not having a mix of laptops and desktops depending on your needs?

N.B: Sorry mich for the redundancy, I replied before I read ur reply.

let's say that laptops are indeed less power consuming then Desktops, consider the rate you'll be changing your batteries, that made the difference you saved and even more..

Go for laptops because :

- laptops are mobile, very usefull for marketing/presales/sales/site engineers/managers/etc...., at the same time its easy for employees when moving to another office in the future or another branch .

- laptops rarely face hardware problems, and have better waranty and support options .

- employees can take their work home with them, and can check email locally when on vacation or on weekends .

- laptops take less space on any desk, and the battery is a very important advantage over any desktop .

I also wanna note that :

- Upgrading the desktop is just a myth, 3-4 years after you buy the desktop its hard to find compatible devices with the existing mainboard (example : New VGA cards are PCI express, not compatible with old mainboards at all), its obvious that the upgrade will include memory only, any laptop has that option .

I have no idea why would you choose desktops, unless you are a government office or a bank .

remember that for desktops you have to put money on UPS and power stabilizers, which isnt needed in case of laptops, the battery of a laptop will be able to function for 10-20 minutes after 2-3 years of usage .
