Default Citrix ? Help ! - 5th March 2007

Hello All,

i was browsing for jobs abroad and i noticed a considerable amount of recruiters asking for Citrix experience, in Lebanon, i have never encountered that software so i conducted a small research. couldnt find anything helpful, i found the main website and downloaded the clients softwares but there's no documentations for it. so the question is, whats Citrix ? whats a Citrix server ? anyone has a good tutorial ? is there a way to build a Citrix server at home for training purposes ?

Thank you,

they use Citrix in AUB, i think it is a software that allows clients to open other softwares "remotely" (without them being fully installed locally), yan3eh for example, if u go to aub website then under resources and .... you will find a list of softwares like MS-Word 2007 and others and u can open them remotely, i think this is the main purpose of it, and of course it will have a server side (where the applications are locally installed) and clients using those softwares remotely... I hope this helped you !

Citrix Solutions : Offer products usefull for building Application servers hosting, Terminal services, reducing the TCO for companies and minimizing costs for support and upgrade .

Example, you are a company which owns 5000 Desktops, most desktops run old windows NT/2000 OS, operating on an old 32-bit pentium 3 processor, the management needs all users to use a new ERP application which is client/server based, the client side needs at least a windows XP/SP2 system operating, you can use citrix to let clients connect through a remote session to a clustered server farm where the client is installed, from there the user can launch the server application, benefits will be :

1- better security since the user has no control whatsoever on the OS & Hardware

2- No need to upgrade the desktops to winXP since the user can simply use a citrix client to open a terminal session and he will get an "XP SHELL"

3- No need to upgrade existing hardware, users will share the clustered server hardware which will be cheaper and could serve the purpose easily .

Hope that helps .

Thank you all for the help, i found a tutorial about Citrix, downloaded it and now reading it, it seems that this system is a bit like Remote desktop but with more restrictions and multi session control.
still i need to know how to build a citrix server.
