I think you are joking. Dell is not good at all, HP is way much better than Dell

Based on my personal experience, HP is by far the best laptop u can buy! Toshiba is a good product but it has problems in the batteries just like Sony.

Sony also have problems with their software! DELL are ok but HP are still the best u can find now.

PS: Keep away from Acer.

About 2 years ago, I got a good Fujitsu Siemens.. It was a Centrino 2 GHz with 80 GB of hdisk space, 1 GB of RAM and a 256 MB ATI video adapter. It was not a bad laptop, the only problem is the battery life.. mmm, well an the video adapter that is not working anymore (I keep it ON, in Safe Mode now because of that VGA issue, 24/7 !)

Recently, I tried a 1.87 GHz Core Duo DELL 6400 with 2 GB of RAM, the battery life is way better than the FS, but sometimes it just slows down for no reasons, sometimes it takes ages to load Windows! Don't know if it's a hardware or software problem..

I have never tried any HP, Toshiba or Vaio stuff.. but as far as I know these are the Top 3 laptop brands today.

Default US laptop recommendation - 26th June 2007

What would you recommend 2 buy as laptop in the US now for about 900-1100$?

Its for a friend who will be using it a lot but not for any heavy media or graphic work.

Just regular use instead of a desktop.

Needs to be light, 15.4 inches....

I was thinking the Toshiba A205-S4607?

I think HP Pavilion DV6560US or HP Pavilion dv6335us would be the best laptop within his price range.

Since he live in US, then I think he can get it from newegg
