i have a compaq...

actually compaq and HP are the same..

it is very good.. very good performance and when i bought a year ago, it was the top of the line (not centrino) and a very good price...

no problem...
u would feel more heat coming out of the compaq compared to toshiba because the fan points to the side rather than the rear..
but the heat production is a function of the CPU... rather than the rest of the computer...

the laptop prices are very high compared in lebanon compared to the US.. i even bought my brother a toshiba from bestbuy and carried it with me to lebanon..

peace...

Actually, Dell has good deals in lebanon...

You can find them at: http://bproducts.com/Merchant2/merch..._Code=Inspiron

My brother just bought one through them. They have local service and support if you buy from lebanon.

However, you can get slightly better deal if someone buys it in the US for you. The problem is if you need service and support, it will be difficult to ship it back to the US.

This is my second Toshiba in a row, and I love them.

Personally, I would stay away from American laptops.

well i've had my Dell Inspiron for 3 yrs+ now (all through college) and i havent had any issues with it...it works great for basic things..now for playing games wou osas... you can get better...but i dont use it for PC games, just internet, and basic school work with Microsofts product.
so depending on what you really wana use it for..then make your choice..

Sony, dell, toshiba, Hp are the same; i think the laptop industry is not very succeeding in creating lasting computers.

Heating is the main problem of laptops, so look for 2 things:
- The place of the fan; preferably at the right, left or upper end; if it is in the middle, forget the laptop
- The maximum RAM

Now, amd are as good (sometimes better) than intel and cheaper. So, a amd laptop can be cheaper. And nowadays, 1500US is a very good (high) price for a laptop so you should get a good one.

I've had my Acer travelmate 4002 since June and I'm pretty happy with it Dunno where you read those bad reviews. I asked around and several people (some were owners of different brands) recommended Acer.
But, mine can get kinda slow if you're running too many things at once. I don't know if all Acers are like that, but if I had to run a graphics program on my laptop it would probably be a nightmare. However, for my needs (a graduate student who uses it for wireless internet, bluetooth, saving articles and typing papers) it's perfect. I don't like downloading on this computer, I'm paranoid even though I have Norton Internet Security installed. Another thing I like about Acer laptops is that they're relatively light, which is important for me.

Toshiba and Dell are big names also. I think it depends on what you want to do. To my knowledge, graphic design type people prefer macs.

Note: I think most Acers, if not all, have rectangular screens if it makes a difference.. I know a friend of mine prefers square screens and he got another brand (can't remember right now what he has)

Note 2: If you know someone in North America, eBay is your friend.

I think I am going for Fujitsu Siemens M1437..
It has great specifications for a good price (compared to other laptop brands).
