Default Building A CoreI7 Capable Desktop. - 28th October 2008

Amidst all the confusion aroused by all the different spec changes inhibited by the awakening of the unvailed Intel CoreI7, resides a vivid sense of optimism in the performance of the new hardware.

Many of you are confused by the type of mobo required by the CoreI7, the type of rams, which vga to get, etc...

In order to fascilitate future purchases, dummy specification will i put forth in order for you to get a grasp on the type of hardware we are talking about.

I will not delve deep in the technical giberish but rather put forth a list of products that are geared towards the many of you who are looking forward for this tech to arrive.

First and Foremost:

-MotherBoard: You need an x58 motherboard, i.e:
.Asus P6T, around 350$.
.For the gaming enthusiasts, theres the Asus Rampage II Extreme which i reckon will cost you aroudn 450$ to 500$.

-Memory: even if somewhat hard to acquire in Lebanon i recommend you get Corsair brand memory.

.TR3X6G1866C9DF 6GB Kit 1866MHz DOMINATOR with Airflow fan $475
.TR3X3G1866C9DF 3GB Kit 1866MHz DOMINATOR with Airflow fan $250
.TR3X6G1600C8D 6GB Kit 1600MHz DOMINATOR $300
.TR3X3G1600C8D 3GB Kit 1600MHz DOMINATOR $175
.TR3X6G1333C9 6GB Kit 1333MHz $230
.TR3X3G1333C9 3GB Kit 1333MHz $120

If not in reach of any Corsair branded memory, then DDR3, 1333mhz Kingston branded would be appropriate.

-Graphics Accelerator: im opting for nvidia graphic cards because they are Cuda enabled thus having an advantage in games that require heavy phyx acceleration.

.Nvidia XFX geforce 280gtx 1gb ram. It'll cost you around 300$ to 400$. Im kind of betting on the prices of this specific generations to come down because Nvidia will be releasing a new model soon.

.Nvidia XFX geforce 260gt 1gb ram. Will cost you around 200$ to 300$.

-CPU INTEL COREI7
.Intel Core i7 920. Product Code: BX80601920. 2.66GHz.$339.95

.Intel Core i7 940. Product Code: BX80601940. 2.93GHz.$649.95

.Intel Core i7 965 Extreme Edition. Product Code: BX80601965. 3.20GHz. $1,099.95

So if i had to build a model including all these specs, i would have:

-Cpu: Intel Core i7 920. Product Code: BX80601920. 2.66GHz.$339.95
-Motherboard: Asus P6T Deluxe. 350$
-VGA:XFX geforce 260gt. 300$
-Memory:Corsair TR3X6G1333C9 6GB Kit 1333MHz $230
-Storage: Western Digital 500GB 7200RPM S-ATAII 16MB $70.00
-LG GGC-H20L DVDRW Blu-ray/HD-DVD Reader & Dual Layer DVD±RW Writer (youll be needing a Blu ray drive in the near future) 200$

The desktop should cost you around: 1590$

PS: l3ami....ghaleh
