Default Blu-Ray? - 24th April 2008

Now that the replacement of the DVD war is over, with Blu-Ray coming out on top, is it time to invest in this machine?

As is typical with any new technology, the first batch is usually plagued with hiccups. I'm wondering if this is the case with Blu-Ray players. And if so, how long should we wait until we buy one?

Well actually you can buy one right now.
the difference with the DVDs is that there's regular software update since most of the players are connectible machines.

The best player around is definitely the PS3 (I know you'll hate me for saying that :) ).
But it's true.. actually the player is heavy duty since it's also used for games; so he's supposed to handle the average nb of gaming hours of the japanese people which is quite high... lol..
I already bought 3 BR that I watch on my PS3: Last Samurai, Memoir of a Geisha and Deep Blue.
All 3 have the most amazing picture I have ever seen... it's a real pleasure.

another advantage of a BR Player, is that it can upgrade the quality of your DVDs (Upscaling Feature) as well ;)

Hehe.. that's life I guess..
can you still read your old Video cassettes :)

Well what I can suggest is to check the quality of the BR.
If it's HD, then yes, I definitely think it's worth it..
If it's the same quality as DVD... may be it's worth keeping the DVD (since they can be played on BR players ;) )

OK now it is becoming more helpful, thanx. So before buying my BR movie, I should check if it is in HD format???

Plus, is Green Ray the same as Blu Ray??

No seriously, you might have BR Movies that are not in HD, exactly like some dvds that didn't have the quality of a DVD.

As for the Green Ray... don't know... is it a Kataeb stuf?

Just wait a little while for the cheap copies of Blu Ray players to come out, then prices of all will drop....

OK great, thanx a lot for the tips.

As for the Green Ray, lol it isn't a Kataeb stuff since if it is disposed, Ammoune cannot use it for his own political ambitions ,

The Green Ray (French: Le Rayon vert) is a novel by the French writer Jules Verne published in 1882 and named after the optical phenomenon (see green flash).

But actually I heard from some friends that there are Blu Ray CDs and some newer ones called Green Ray CDs (not sure if the name is spelled right), and those have even better qualities than the Blu Ray ones.

ah ok.. I thought that you were joking about the Green Ray.

Actually the reason why we couldn't have enough quality in movies is because producers didn't have much space on disks. The innovation with Blue Ray is that the laser Ray is Blue, that has a wavelength that is pretty small compared to the normal light.

That implies that you can have thinner slots on your Disk to store the digital information. That means you can have much more information for the same surface (A BlueRay can store up to 50Gb of data per Disk).
Now if you check the Green Ray, it has a higher Wavelength than the Blue Ray... So it can theoretically store less infos than the BR.
...In my opinion it's just a rumor ;)
