Default Zajal Lobneneh : Origin and Video Archives - 6th June 2008

Hi All,

I cant think but of the beauty of lebanon's people when i hear Zajal .. Today i was with a freind of mine and we had a discussion where and who started Zajal. He was saying it is originally palastenian and i was insisting it is lebanese.

Can someone help please.

I would like to share with you one of my favorite Zajal Videos from Youtube and who would be the star but Talee3 7amdan ..

Enjoy

The zajal links you posted are actually not bad at all Mount_Amel, never really heard anything for Talee3 7amdan....but I just found out he's pretty good

However, when you wanna hear real Lebanese zajal , you should go for the true satrs, like "Moussa Zgheib" and "Zaghloul Damour" and "Khalil Roukoz" !!

This link for example contains a fair amount of downloadable zajal music for Moussa Zgheib (some call him Moussi with an "i" as well )

And an amazing zajal extract written by Moussa Zgheib, sung by Najwa karam
Mouwwel aL Adyan

And here is a prodigious list, of lebanese zajal text....with this database, you could impress your audience pretty well, since zajal is a custom nowadays, where the audience can participate by replying with the ending

As for the origins, I'm pretty sure it's Lebanese
Lebanese Zajal is as old as Amir Fakhreddine, and even documented to be older (1200-1300). But in only became popular as we know it today (ya3ni competition, w tawli w mezza w khass w tabbouli, w dirbakki ) in the thirties, with "Cha7rour l Wadi" and others....

There is a possibility that the palestinians discovered their own zajal as well......but as we arabs tend to do sometimes, is try to improve our methods by comparing to others. I will try to provide more details during the upcoming days.

I like zajal a lot ... i enjoy hearing it but i am not so talented to write it
I hope lebanon will never lose this kind of Turath really ... it has his own audience but its so great and special

When i was young i used to watch TL and Zajal between zaghloul l damour and Cha7rour l Wadi .... and others but i forget their names. ...... i still smile till now when i see l khasse w kam rass banadoura w kes l 3arak 2eddemoun ... i really like the mood

I still remember one sentence that i like so much:
الليلة بدّي خلّي الكاس تفزّ تبوس القنينة

i like how they merge words together with a lot of fun and high intelligence
Some of the members here are good in zajal ... like Arze .... where are you Arze ??? .... yalla 2atribina

The first time I watched & heard Haflet Zajal was on TL my grandfather a big fan of them, used to watch them every Sunday & never missed an episode.

I had the opportunity to work on filming a Zajal Program produced by my university & watch a live Zajal debate between 2 groups. It was great they used to skip some written phrases & Yértéjlo live some new ones.
We interviewed all big names as Zaghloul el damour, Moussa Zgheib & Elias Khalil (the brother of nayeb kesrouan Youssif Khalil) & many others ...

I would like to present a Zajal program proposal to OTV but I don't know if they will agree, what do you think?
