It was more of a biased documentary from an Armenian (Noura Kevorkian) who lived in Anjar and immigrated to Canada. A very interesting historical background on how the village of Anjar was created entirely by refugees from Musa Dagh, a cluster of 6 Armenian Villages who fought the ottomans for 53 days before being shipped to Egypt by the French, and eventually into Lebanon in 1939.
I worked in Anjar 10 yrs ago on a water supply project, so the movie brought back memories of Armenian peserverence and stubborness that I never understood at that time. I now also understand the importance of the September celebration every yr in the Town's church to commemorate the Musa Dagh-ians departure from their homeland.
Just thought I'd share. |
People usually do not know that Anjar has 6 districts that have the same names as the six villages. Also the people who came to Anjar came from skandaron district or Musa Dagh that was part of Syria given to the turkish in order for thm not to go into WWII while those of Beirut came from the eastern ottoman empire after the genocide.
Where did you get the movie from?
