As ever the City back then was searching for its identity. It likes to think it is all the things it isn't. Yet who cares as long as there is someone to believe it, everything is truth.

A group that incarnated the spirit of the way we were was the Bandali Family singers. Not quite the Von Traps, but close enough.
They came up with one hit after another that once herad can never be remembered but they did have unlimited supply of Child Miracles.

They added so much joy to the cultural life of the city as it began its inexorable march towards self destruction with the appropriate music.

Do You Love Me ? / Bendaly Family

And another classic
Bendaly Family / Shreena Breena

And yet another one
Bendaly Family

And so she does but everyone knows that she means shajra. As an FPMer ya doc you are undoubtedly aware that what one means is more important than what one says.

and second it's your interpretation,
Of course it is and I already explained how I came to this conclusion in another thread

It's your every right to interpret the story whichever way you like so long as the whole of the lyrics justify your interpretation and not just few selected verses in the beginning. Furthermore, it's not just about the impression or even the perception that one gets from hearing the music but also about the lyrics.

To take your way is to stretch the symbolism to such rich limits as to make it a bit too far fetched when simplicity could do a much better and a more coherent job. No?
The question is why would an ageing lonely lover have spent so much time around that tree There had to be a cormmercial reason if you dont want her to be accused of being a lunatic or a bit eccentric.
and how about the ending
I thought the metaphor here is too clear to be tainted by romantic feelings that are not there in the first of place but a product of the imagination of Fairuz fans who perhaps see too much beauty in virtue.

Who am I to judge but it would be nice if you can share with us why you thought it meant what you said. Maybe you are right and I am the naive one for not letting something so beautiful be tainted by something so nice.
Back in those days this was a popular song:

By 1973 there was no turning back. The lines in the sand had been drawn. Everyone had gathered the necessary arms. The rich converted their deposits to foreign currencies and bought or rented flats in european cities while the poor had no choice but to stay behind and fight for the various causes that were hammered into their heads, happily at first and tragically later.
Everyone was waiting for zero hour yet no one had a clue when it would arrive.
The ra7banis, having read the Lebanese history time and time again had no where to turn to but a higher authority and wrote this song to predict the fate of 100's of thousands of people who were only too happy to march towards the precipice as Lebanese always are.
