Default Steve Irwin Dead!!!! - 4th September 2006

Steve Irwin stung to death by a sting ray at Batt Reef in Queensland Australia, while filming an underwater documentary. He's dead at 44, survived by his wife and two children. This is terribly sad news

i cant believe this!
the "crocodile hunter" really died! what a shock! he died doing the thing he loved most in life! i always used to enjoy his show, so dynamic, so well informed and always felt this guy is really risking his life!

when you watch him, you can't but fall for his facial expressions, his australian accent and the way he used to deal with the dangerous animal, i remember once i was watching the show and a snake attacked him, after a while he showed us the finger that was harmed with the "ohhhhhhhhhh" of exclamation he always used to have!
may his soul rest in peace! i'm really sad i heard this

in english:

Stephen Robert "Steve" Irwin (22 February 1962 – 4 September 2006) was an Australian environmentalist and television personality. He was best known for the television program The Crocodile Hunter, an unconventional wildlife documentary series which he hosted with his wife Terri Irwin. Irwin's personality and outrageous antics in the series made him an international celebrity. He also owned and operated the Australia Zoo at Beerwah in Queensland.

On 4 September 2006, Irwin was fatally pierced in the chest by a stingray barb off the Great Barrier Reef in Australia while filming an underwater documentary.

Shortly after 11:00 a.m. local time (01:00 UTC), Irwin was filming in the Low Isles near Port Douglas, north of Cairns, Queensland, Australia, where he was stung either through his heart or through the left side of his chest and suffered cardiac arrest. After he was stung, his crew called for medical help and the Queensland Rescue Helicopter responded, taking him to Cairns Base Hospital. However, Irwin was immediately pronounced dead at the scene. The Queensland Police Service notified his family and released a statement for the media concerning the event.

its a real shame
i was a huge fan of him and still am
the expressions he used to do on screen were hilarious, the least thing would make him shout and scream "ohhhhhh", "beauuuuutiiifuullll" and "Crikey!"

RIP steve

Default Bush town remembers Irwin - 4th September 2006

Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin
Sep 4, 2006

The tiny south-west Queensland town of St George may erect a memorial to Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin.

The 44-year-old media personality and environmentalist died on Monday when a stingray barb punctured his chest while he was filming a nature documentary off the coast of Port Douglas in north Queensland.

Irwin owns a 37,000ha property about 70km north-east of St George, in the shire of Balonne, which he used as a haven from his hectic, globe-trotting schedule, as well as a conservation area.

It was the place to which he retreated when a furore erupted in 2004 after he held his infant son Bob in one arm while feeding a chicken carcass to a saltwater crocodile.

Balonne Shire Mayor Robert Buchan said he had left a message with Australia Zoo, passing on the shire's condolences to the Irwin family.

But the shire may go a step further and erect a memorial to Irwin.

"We have a council meeting on the 15th of September where we'll discuss (a memorial)," Buchan told AAP.

Buchan said he had never met Irwin but had spoken to him on the telephone during the "Bob" furore.

"He used to come out here to get away from things and it was very low-key," he said.

"He would shop around town and minded his own business and most of the people out here respected that.

"This is where he recharged his batteries."

Irwin originally visited the town to look for rare pythons, but decided to buy two properties.

Buchan said he had a great respect for Irwin.

"He has done so much for Australia and for promoting Australia overseas," he said.

"He has made a significant contribution to this nation."

Queensland Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce, who is based in St George, also offered his sympathies.

"The town has got to know him and their family as very decent people," Senator Joyce said.

"We are all deeply shocked, Steve was so full of life and it seems incredible that he has been so tragically lost to all."

This is weird,

He died at the hands of the wussiest creature he ever went after,

From, Huge Crocs, to Cobra snakes, King Typan Snakes, Funnel Web Spiders, a Stingray had to kill him.

I was suprised he lived for so long.

RIP

Well it is really a sad news, I used to watch his programs on Animal Planet frequently. He is a real stunt...Once a wild chita almost attacked him, he himself said a chita is as powerful as 20 men !! So it is unfortunate that someone could die like that.
May he rest in peace. Surely it is a big loss for Animal Planet channel
