Dragonforce

DragonForce is somewhat of a rarity, based in London England, they play a brand of music that is almost non-existent in their location. Formed in September 1999, formerly known as DragonHeart, the band changed their name in December 2001 to DragonForce to avoid confusion with other bands, record labels and movies under the same name.

The band is powered by the twin guitar assaults of Herman Li and Sam Totman, with singer ZP Theart, drummer Didier Almouzni, and keyboard player Vadim Pruzhanov. An ordinary line up it may seem at first, but DragonForce is uniquely backed by a diverse, multi-culture international line up (Hong Kong, England, South Africa, France, Ukraine) never seen before from a young new band.

In short, DragonForce's sound can be best described as a mix of modern melodic power metal with the fury of speed metal, but the band's influence comes from wide across the metal spectrum. Catchy melodies that stick straight into your head, combined with outrageous speed, power and totally over the top dual guitar wizardry are just some of their qualities which separate them from the masses. Most importantly underneath this sonic fury lies the band's indisputable strength, their song writing. Take any of their songs and you will find enough hooks to fill an ocean, enough technical process to satisfy progressive metal lovers, guitar solos to have you playing air guitar combined with catchy melodies and the strong voice of an outstanding metal shouter.

Here's a video for dragonforce : through the fire and the flames. If you're into heavy metal, this song will kick your *** !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3VUBIdBaOU

Herman Lii, the band's guitarist is very charismatic and .. err ... friggin .. fast ! He manoeuvres his axe perfectly. Just check the vid and you'll see what i'm talking about =).

Great band and great songs for me.
The band's name is the butterfly effect, download some songs if you want:
History

The band released their self-titled debut EP in 2001. It was well-promoted on Triple J which led to wider recognition for the band country-wide. In 2002 they toured constantly, with airplay and EP sales both continuing to increase, the latter eventually exceeding 10,000 copies.

By mid 2002 the EP had topped the independent charts and remained in the top 20 for almost a year. The single from the EP "Take It Away" was picked up by commercial rock radio station Triple M as the "Unsigned Find" of 2002. As a result of this, the band began partnerships with Roadshow Music and Rough Cut Publishing.

In November 2002 the band released the second single from Begins Here, "Crave". It debuted on the ARIA Charts at #59 and also achieved #1 on the independent charts.

The Butterfly Effect spent November 2002 to March 2003 recording their debut album, Begins Here, at Modern Music Studios in Brisbane, Australia. Their producer/engineer was Dave Leonard who is also the band's manager. It was mixed by Tim Palmer and mastered by Howie Weinberg in NY, May 2003.

The album was released in Australia on August 4, 2003. It debuted at #24 on the ARIA Charts and again topped the independent charts. It remained in the charts for 56 weeks in total. To date, it has sold over 30,000 copies.

Distribution deals saw the album being released by RSK in the UK, Sony in Germany, Benelux region (Suburban) in Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg. The band started to garner attention in Europe, with mentions in several media including Metal Hammer, Rock Sound, Classic Rock, Kerrang!, Metal Hammer Germany and Aardshock. In August 2004 Primary Talent agent Dave Chumbley represented the band for a six week tour through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Holland and the UK. From September to November The Butterfly Effect played 32 shows in 40 days. Album sales have now exceeded 10,000 units in the UK and Europe, and the band has also had some success in South Africa.

During 2005 the band recorded a new single titled "Phoenix". The single was released during September, and a film clip was also made. During October and November the band toured Australia, playing some material from their forthcoming second album, Imago, which was released in Australia during July 2006.

[edit] Currently

The band finished recording their second studio album, titled Imago, in early 2006 and it was released on June 17, 2006. It debuted at number 2 in the ARIA Chart for Weekly Top 100 highest selling music albums. Their previous album, Begins Here, is being prepared for release in the USA through hard rock label Megaforce Records. The band commenced the "Imago" Tour around Australia in July.

In mid-2006, after nearly three years since its release "Begins Here" was certified gold in Australia, exceeding sales of 35,000 copies. Shortly afterwards, "Imago" also attained the same status, only this time it reached the gold ark in only weeks, including debuting at No.2 on the ARIA album charts.

At the moment, they are nominated for the Oz Artist of the Year Award at the ARIAs, one of the few awards to be voted by the public. The award will be presented at the ARIA awards later this year.

A catchy song I found on the EA Sports games playlist.
The artist is Japanese, a band called Tigarah, the song, Girl Fight

Give it a listen here.

Obviously you won't understand anything unless you speak some Jap, but it's a catcy tune.

Enjoy :)

If anyone wants Roger Water's (ex- Pink Floyd bassist) song called "Leaving Beirut,"
here it is:
(According to the laws here, sharing it is legal)

http://rapidshare.com/files/1798923/...ing_Beirut.mp3

It's a song that tells a story about the time he visited Lebanon as a teenager. It is anti-Bush, anti-Republican, and pro-Arab.

Lyrics:

So we left Beirut Willa and I
He headed East to Baghdad and the rest of it
I set out North
I walked the five or six miles to the last of the street lamps
And hunkered in the curb side dusk
Holding out my thumb
In no great hope at the ramshackle procession of home bound traffic
Success!
An ancient Mercedes 'dolmus '
The ubiquitous, Arab, shared taxi drew up
I turned out my pockets and shrugged at the driver
" J'ai pas de l'argent "
" Venez! " A soft voice from the back seat
The driver lent wearily across and pushed open the back door
I stooped to look inside at the two men there
One besuited, bespectacled, moustached, irritated, distant, late
The other, the one who had spoken,
Frail, fifty five-ish, bald, sallow, in a short sleeved pale blue cotton shirt
With one biro in the breast pocket
A clerk maybe, slightly sunken in the seat
"Venez!" He said again, and smiled
"Mais j'ai pas de l'argent"
"Oui, Oui, d'accord, Venez!"

Are these the people that we should bomb
Are we so sure they mean us harm
Is this our pleasure, punishment or crime
Is this a mountain that we really want to climb
The road is hard, hard and long
Put down that two by four
This man would never turn you from his door
Oh George! Oh George!
That Texas education must have fucked you up when you were very small

He beckoned with a small arthritic motion of his hand
Fingers together like a child waving goodbye
The driver put my old Hofner guitar in the boot with my rucksack
And off we went
" Vous etes Francais, monsieur? "
" Non, Anglais "
" Ah! Anglais "
" Est-ce que vous parlais Anglais, Monsieur? "
"Non, je regrette"
And so on
In small talk between strangers, his French alien but correct
Mine halting but eager to please
A lift, after all, is a lift
Late moustache left us brusquely
And some miles later the dolmus slowed at a crossroads lit by a single lightbulb
Swung through a U-turn and stopped in a cloud of dust
I opened the door and got out
But my benefactor made no move to follow
The driver dumped my guitar and rucksack at my feet
And waving away my thanks returned to the boot
Only to reappear with a pair of alloy crutches
Which he leaned against the rear wing of the Mercedes.
He reached into the car and lifted my companion out
Only one leg, the second trouser leg neatly pinned beneath a vacant hip
" Monsieur, si vous voulez, ca sera un honneur pour nous
Si vous venez avec moi a la maison pour manger avec ma femme "

When I was 17 my mother, bless her heart, fulfilled my summer dream
She handed me the keys to the car
We motored down to Paris, fuelled with Dexedrine and booze
Got bust in Antibes by the cops
And fleeced in Naples by the wops
But everyone was kind to us, we were the English dudes
Our dads had helped them win the war
When we all knew what we were fighting for
But now an Englishman abroad is just a US stooge
The bulldog is a poodle snapping round the scoundrel's last refuge

"Ma femme", thank God! Monopod but not queer
The taxi drove off leaving us in the dim light of the swinging bulb
No building in sight
What the hell
"Merci monsieur"
"Bon, Venez!"
His faced creased in pleasure, he set off in front of me
Swinging his leg between the crutches with agonising care
Up the dusty side road into the darkness
After half an hour we'd gone maybe half a mile
When on the right I made out the low profile of a building
He called out in Arabic to announce our arrival
And after some scuffling inside a lamp was lit
And the changing angle of light in the wide crack under the door
Signalled the approach of someone within
The door creaked open and there, holding a biblical looking oil lamp
Stood a squat, moustached woman, stooped smiling up at us
She stood aside to let us in and as she turned
I saw the reason for her stoop
She carried on her back a shocking hump
I nodded and smiled back at her in greeting, fighting for control
The gentleness between the one-legged man and his monstrous wife
Almost too much for me

Is gentleness too much for us
Should gentleness be filed along with empathy
We feel for someone else's child
Every time a smart bomb does its sums and gets it wrong
Someone else's child dies and equities in defence rise
America, America, please hear us when we call
You got hip-hop, be-bop, hustle and bustle
You got Atticus Finch
You got Jane Russell
You got freedom of speech
You got great beaches, wildernesses and malls
Don't let the might, the Christian right, **** it all up
For you and the rest of the world

They talked excitedly
She went to take his crutches in routine of care
He chiding, gestured
We have a guest
She embarrassed by her faux pas
Took my things and laid them gently in the corner
"Du the?"
We sat on meagre cushions in one corner of the single room
The floor was earth packed hard and by one wall a raised platform
Some six foot by four covered by a simple sheet, the bed
The hunchback busied herself with small copper pots over an open hearth
And brought us tea, hot and sweet
And so to dinner
Flat, unleavened bread, + thin
Cooked in an iron skillet over the open hearth
Then folded and dipped into the soft insides of female sea urchins
My hostess did not eat, I ate her dinner
She would hear of nothing else, I was their guest
And then she retired behind a curtain
And left the men to sit drinking thimbles full of Arak
Carefully poured from a small bottle with a faded label
Soon she reappeared, radiant
Carrying in her arms their pride and joy, their child.
I'd never seen a squint like that
So severe that as one eye looked out the other disappeared behind its nose

Not in my name, Tony, you great war leader you
Terror is still terror, whosoever gets to frame the rules
History's not written by the vanquished or the damned
Now we are Genghis Khan, Lucretia Borghia, Son of Sam
In 1961 they took this child into their home
I wonder what became of them
In the cauldron that was Lebanon
If I could find them now, could I make amends?
How does the story end?

And so to bed, me that is, not them
Of course they slept on the floor behind a curtain
Whilst I lay awake all night on their earthen bed
Then came the dawn and then their quiet stirrings
Careful not to wake the guest
I yawned in great pretence
And took the proffered bowl of water heated up and washed
And sipped my coffee in its tiny cup
And then with much "merci-ing" and bowing and shaking of hands
We left the woman to her chores
And we men made our way back to the crossroads
The painful slowness of our progress accentuated by the brilliant morning light
The dolmus duly reappeared
My host gave me one crutch and leaning on the other
Shook my hand and smiled
"Merci, monsieur," I said
" De rien "
" And merci a votre femme, elle est tres gentille "
Giving up his other crutch
He allowed himself to be folded into the back seat again
"Bon voyage, monsieur," he said
And half bowed as the taxi headed south towards the city
I turned North, my guitar over my shoulder
And the first hot gust of wind
Quickly dried the salt tears from my young cheeks.

In Flames - Only For The Weak

In Flames is one of the best bands that plays the Gothenburg Death Metal style.

This genre is named as such because it was popularized by bands from the Gothenburg area in Sweden, hence the name. What differs this style from regular DM is that it's less aggressive, and tends to include maidenesque melodic riffs.

Enjoy the vid !

Another great track from EA sports' playlist !

Here's the lyrics, try singing them along =) :

Tiptop, tiptop.....

Tiptop das ist allerhand
und das ganze Land
bis zum Letzten Vollprolet kann sagen

Tiptop das ist interessant,

Wir sagen Tiptop - Mmh.. aha aha
Tiptop - Ooh..
Tiptop - Mhh.. Aha aha
Tiptop - Go, go, go

Tiptop schreib es an die Wand,
mach es weltbekannt
Tip es in dein netzgerät und sage

Tiptop das ist interessant
und das ganze land
weiß inzwischen wie das geht und findet's

Tiptop - Mhh.. aha aha
Tiptop - Ooh..
Tiptop - Mhh.. Aha aha
Tiptop - Du, du, du und du

Tiptop - Mhh.. aha aha
Tiptop - Ooh..
Tiptop - Mhh.. Aha aha
Tiptop - Go, go, go

Tiptop das ist allerhand

bis zum Letzten Truckstopfan kann sagen

Tiptop das ist interessant
keiner hat's gekannt
und wir sind ganz heiß auf

Tiptop - Mhh.. aha aha
Tiptop - Ooh..
Tiptop - Mhh.. Aha aha
Tiptop - Du, du, du und du

Tiptop - Mhh.. aha aha

It was Fairuz' Hkili Hkili aan Baladi (well a line out of it) remixed into this amazing trance for this rave. Despite the fact Fairuz virtually sings for the end of Israel, it's good to see their DJs are still inspired by her music. hehe

If you're interested in the link, let me know, I'll try find it again.

I think it's on You Tube.
Was it a typical Israeli psychedelic-trance track? That's the type of music they usually play at festivals in the Negev.

I'd love to listen, could you lend me a hand?

Thx

Yeah Yeah Yeahs are a New York City-based rock band. The band members include lead singer Karen O, drummer Brian Chase, and guitarist Nick Zinner. Their music is a mix of retro styles with heavy rock/punk guitars, synthetic sounds and rhythmic, and melodic and bluesy vocals. They formed in 2000 as a trio, and were joined by second guitarist Imaad Wasif in 2006 for touring purposes.

Their second album, Show Your Bones, was released on March 27/28, 2006. The first single from the album, "Gold Lion", was released on March 20th, 2006, reaching 18 in the Official UK Singles Chart. It has been noted by several listeners that "Gold Lion" sounds startingly similar to "No New Tale To Tell" from 1980's alternative favorites Love and Rockets. Karen is noted for her unique look thanks to friend and costume designer Christian Joy. The band toured throughout Europe and the United States during much of 2006.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Gold Lion

Gold lion's gonna tell me where the light is,
Gold lion's gonna tell me where the light is,
Take our hands out of control,
Take our hands out of control

Now, tell me what you saw,
Tell me what you saw,
There was a crowd of seeds,
Inside, outside,
I must have done a dozen each

It was the height I threw, the weight,
The shell was crushing you,
I've been around a few

Tell me what you saw,
I'll tell you what to...
Ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ohh ohh
Ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ohh ohh

Gold lion's gonna tell me where the light is,
Gold lion's gonna tell me where the light is,
Take our hands out of control,
Take our hands out of control

Outside, Inside,
This is the moon without a tide,
We'll build a fire in your eyes,
We'll build a fire when the cover's getting brighter,
Cold as I, makes the moon without a tide

Tell me what you saw,
I'll tell you what to...
Ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ohh ohh
Ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ohh ohh

Ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ohh ohh
Ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ohh ohh
