Icon9 Male singers addressing their lovers!! - 16th February 2007

Can anybody tell me WHY all of the Lebanese or Arab male singers address their LOVE songs to MEN!!
Maybe to let GIRLS love the songs and send them to their beloved!! It might be true!! BUT FEMALES also sing for MEN -We can use their songs! ? Isn't this wierd??
Besides and BUT sings don't say: RAY7A choufak ... BUT RAYE7 choufak... (just an example), sooooooooooooo USELESS for a girl!! Soooooo, the sender and the reciever are both MALES!!

FEMALE and MALE singers sing for MEN!! Few songs are addressed to females ! WHY??

Pre-composition??????? Yeahhhhhhh maybe!! Songs are composed UNISEX and MATROU7INE lal Bey3!! The buyer could be a MAN or a WOMAN!!
Just an idea !

Share yours!!

PS: I laugh when I hear a Man saying to another: Waynak, b7ebbak, rou7i fik...

what abt Nizar Kabbani's poetry ? zidini 3echkan zidini :P

well i guess that the every commercial music captures some sort of a prototype model and , in lebanese music's case, one single theme and they revolve around ending where they began = getting nowhere= worthless set of successive words that please a mainstream hungry ear

funny i never realized this until one of my american friends asked me to translate a song for them and they were like oh my god why is he singing to a guy and i was like oh shoot youre right hahahhaha. I personally never realized it/it never bothered me because when im singing them in the car or something it works well for me hahah.

but when i was explaining it to my friend we had just learned in french class that you use (ils) for example for both fem/masc if its a group so it kind of made sense and i guess la2ano we have fem. and masc. in lebanese thats why they do that...lol i dont know just a guess

Kakou, in general, the "7abeeb" which is lover, is used to describe both males and females, so blame it on the Arabic language (Patriarchal ? ). When a lover in general is referred to, it is masculine.

What Mahyar said is true, but that's not the only reason. They sing to males also simply because it suits the music/rhythm better.

Whenever singing to a female suits the music, they go straight. Otherwise it's gay mode, and in Arabic it's gay mode most of the time.

It's just one of those things like when a song is supposedly sung in the Lebanese dialect, both the "alef" and the "ya2" at the end of each word are always pronounced the Syrian way, because the Lebanese accent sounds awkward to sing.
For example,

it's always "7ayati" (Syrian) and NOT "7ayete," and "lubnan" not "libnen."

Yes indeed.
If anyone remembers the old lebanese TV series (black&white) on TL, you can easily hear someone speaking in arabic (na7aweh) about his wife and referring to her as "zawji" instead of "zawjati". I guess it is meant to say "my pair". Nevertheless it sounds very strange.

Additionaly even in everyday life guys usually tend to use masculin words to address their wives or gf to cherish them. ex: kifo 7abibi, good morning 7obbi.
(I used to use them with my ex-gf, probably because they are shorter than the feminine counterparts :S)

I always thought about it. lol
But then I relaized the reason might be that they are singing for a person which is considered mozakkar.

But I prefer the "waynik" style ..lool ...so I can be able to hum the song wherever I go without feeling ummm .mmmmmm ...

1. they are not addressed to a male lover, they are addressed to "the lover" or "al 7abib" in arabic, which is a masculine noun, that's why you ought to think it's addressed to a man! "al 7abib" = the one you love (it could be a man or a woman, it depends on the person talking)

2. not all songs are addressed to "The Lover" (al 7abib), many are specific to the female lover if a male singer is performing (As LiquidTension mentioned, zidini 3ichkan for example, and trust me there are many), or even specific to the male lover when a lady singer performs
