Death to this movie.

BTW, in case you didn't get it, the above is a joke. And yes, I do feel that it was necessary to clarify that.

Quote:

I watched the movie in cinema a few months ago. It is artisitcally very well done. I don't want to ruin it; the very end of it is the best part.

Just after the Gaza war; swiss TV featured the movie in prime time!! that was major!

The director Ari Folman was a bit harrassed inside 'Israel' for the movie; it was not well featured in Israeli cinemas. But, it is well known around here. Many French I know have seen it.

Its a must see for anyone interested in seeing a different view from an Israeli filmmaker.

you'll love the degree of detail in raouche, 3ayn lemraysey, wimpy hamra, and different parts of Beirut if you're a Beiruti.

As for the bias; its not a newspiece, so there is no bias to discuss. Its an opinion of a filmmaker and his/ his character's experience of the beirut invasion memories.

Bashir lovers don't watch it. It will ruin your given dogmas.

I saw this movie and I thought it was excellent. Not only because of the subject matter, but the direction and the tone that the director chooses to take during scenes.

He keeps the movie very true-to-life. You really feel like you are WATCHING the Lebanese Civil War as it unfolds when you watch this movie, and it is extremely painful to watch. This isn't a movie I'd show to children unless you want to scar them for life.

This movie paints a very negative picture of the Kataeb/LF and essentially portrays them as puritanical savages hellbent on death and murder. The director also implies that the Phalangists had a homosexual affection for Bashir Gemayel.

In any case, it's an extremely interesting movie. I suggest you all watch it. I have a free download link that I can PM you if you'd like.

Again, the same mistake is always perpetrated by folks who seem to forget that Bashir was dead when this massacre happened.

This movie heavily disparages the followers of Bashir Gemayel. As I said in my post above, the director likens Israel's Christian allies to savages and implies that they had a homosexual fascination with their leader.

Watch the movie. If you want the download link (free) I can give it to you via PM.

I saw the movie, and it's fantastic. The homosexual fascination you speak of is of course the writer's own impression, which is his only way to explain it because in his culture people are not that much interested in their politicians.

The Phalangists who perpetrated this crime are savages, and we don't need this movie to tell us. But it doesn't make sense to pin the blame on Bashir himself since he was already dead. The wrong people paid a heavy price for Bashir's murder. Just like the wrong people paid a heavy price for Kamal Jumblatt's murder. Lebanon is full of barbarians that sometimes makes the ISraeli soldiers look like scout-girls on a picnic.

You can't blame Bashir but you can blame his legacy no doubt, these men followed and learned from Bashir, he was ruthless himself and that's how his followers ended up being ruthless as well so yes in a way you can blame him not as much as Sharon but he bears a lot of blame for having instilled the legacy of eliminating your enemy and his children so that they never become ennemies 20 years laters, they assassinated frangiyee and his family this way, Chamoun and his family, and similarly killed children in the sabra and chatila so that they don't grow up and become fida2yyin as well. The phalangists were founded after Pierre el Gemayyel was fascinated by Hitler's Nazism and created phalanges the same way Hitler created scouts, you can even see at their last convention they had last year phalangists holding their hand the same way Nazis used to salute Hitler, even Amine el Gemayyel called armenians second class citizens, this whole Gemayyel legacy is for garbage grabs and phalangists and their offsprings the LF are the worst breed of racists in Lebanon.

Honestly, I wish that the Middle East had the intellectual freedom of Israel. I only wish that Arab movies could be made like Waltz With Bashir and deal with the same subject matter because it is something that the Arab world needs to see.

Instead, Arab TV is soap operas, artificial girls prancing around in music videos, and game shows. Hell, the same guy stars in every movie ever made in Egyptian cinema.
