why am i not shocked?
maybe because it's not the first time i hear about such things...
these sellings happen all around the world, whether sex slaves from eastern europe or real slaves in africa (where it still exists), or similar sellings in latin america, or asia where some men rent their wives or daughters to a brothel in order to pay their debts..once the debt is paid he can her them back.... take it as a credit hypothécaire
my mother told me about a kurdish cleaning lady who sold by her father to a syrian family when she was 14...her "master" who was 20 years older than her married her few years later....she was extremely unhappy and managed to escape and go back to her family...when her father saw her he was enraged and took her back to her husband's house because maybe he didn't want the husband to come back asking for his money.... some years later the husband died and left her with a bunch of kids (+his kids from a previous marriage) and no money, just the house they lived in…and ever since she’s been working as a cleaning lady!
another story: i used to know a portugese woman who had a small fast food snack in brussels, and she had a similar story, ..her parents sold her to a rich portugese family when she was 12 so she can help cleaning the mansion ....at the age of 16 she met a belgian guy who helped her escape and brought her to belgium...whom she married afterwards...then divorced....then remarried

w maba3rif if they divorced ba3ed marra kamen!
so these things happen....it's sad...but it's not like we're living in a perfect world....and it's not like we can do much to stop it!
we shouldn't be criticizing them, we should criticize those who impoverished them.
