Ill tell you why the people are directly involved. I believe in the collective consciousness. People know that their goverments are selling tons of weapons to african tripes, rebel militias, opposed goverments. They know that one of the vertebras in the back bone of their economy is selling hundreds of billions worth of weapons to 3rd world countries, so they can keep on fighting and they keep on reaping. The term civilized countries is hypocrisy at its best. What kind of enlightened, cultured, civilized people could live with the fact they are responsible for the death of millions in the world, because of profit. They know all these things but dont flinch, why? Why who is going to fund all their science and film festival, all their trophies and exotic foods and fabrics. Heh such hypocrisy. And when ud respond with "they dont know what their governments are doing" id say "Exactly".

If getting the label "civilised" because of money from trade deals done across the world, that are responsible for so much agony. Then i dont want a part of ur civilized nations and behavior.

These people arent cultured, they have produced throughout centuries goverments that have enslaved, invaded, oppresed billions of people. My friends, you need to see what "civilized" meant to Heraclitus, Plato, Aristotle. U say civilized behavior, i say Lao Tzu, you say modern man, i say Confucius.

These modern westerners, are nothing but mindless robots, controlled by goverments that are controlled by corporations that wreck havoc on world order. You think that anyone in this world today, has the right to judge someone else. Bah!

People seem to have a hard time understanding that the government of a nation is the product of the people. No matter which form of ruling. Be it Monarchy, or Dictatorship.

Quote:

The truth is, the west does not have that much power over the rest of the world as it did in the beginning of the century. If exploitation exists, 1) it is done by individuals, and it is not culturally integrated in people's morals, 2) it is done more greatly by locals than by western foreigners, 3) if it is done by foreigners, it is also done in collaboration with local authorities, communities or individuals, and usually, also with the agreement of the people who are getting exploited (unless you are talking about forced labor which is a different thing).
See iron foundries in Mauritania, see Gold and Copper mines in Indonesia, see and see and see.

Quote:
In any case, the unethical behavior done in the west is never something that is culturally accepted! Just give me one example of unethical behavior in the west, that is culturally accepted, and I let's argue about that. Don't do generalizations, because it is impossible to argue with that!
I dont believe that ud tell apart ethical behavior from the unethical.

IMO, it's retarded and "cultural" at the same time. They aren't mutually exclusive. The important thing is to put it into perspective, and recognize that the action is horrible, but also that the people who do it are a product of their environment. So my point is: hate the action and less the people. With education and modernization, things change.

Again, government make arms deals. They also have other things to do like national policies related to what matters for the voters. Voters don't vote for their governments according to their government's foreign policies! If that were the case, most governments in Europe would have been Green!

People vote for their governments on issues related to national economy, social services etc., not whether or not the government will sell weapons to third world countries!

But again, this is not part of western culture! It is hypocrisy, it is unethical, but it is not part of our culture, and it is certainly not approved by the people! That doesn't mean the people will stop electing the same leaders because of this one issue! Most people forget (arms deals mostly happen after elections, not before them).

Yserlak! Hope you don't get born a gay woman in a ethnically and politically oppressed minority, in one of those country you like to compare as better than the west!

"Throughout centuries"... You know, slavery is abolished in the 19th century. Back then, it was as common as McDonalds... In fact, the rest of the world has known slavery practically until the end of the 20th century. Some forms of slavery still exist today in these third world countries!

And yes I do know what civilized means! It means that if I get in a car accident, the other person won't get out of his car and beat the hell out of me! It means that if I were a woman that had sex before marriage, I wouldn't get stoned. It means that if I were a woman, I wouldn't be forced to get married at 8 years old! It means that if I am part of a minority, I wouldn't get discriminated against. It means I have rights, politically, socially, legally!

I don't get the feeling that people are robots here. Nor do I think that my government is controlled by corporations... In the states it is true, but let's not generalize... Mindless robot... lol! Look who's talking! I guess either you've never lived in Europe, either you've never lived in Lebanon... Coz you're stereotypes are so wrong! Besides, a government being controlled by big corporations is called corruption. Something that, in our cultures, is seen as a bad thing! In the countries you love so much, people don't care for corruption!

And yes, I do think I have the right to judge others. As far as I'm concerned, I would never force anyone to do anything. Specially in the name of culture!

If the government does something, it is not always known nor approved by the people! That is why concepts like transparency and accountability have been created: because we strive always for more transparency and more accountability.

Unfortunately, it is not always the case! To take your arms deals example: the state approves it, even if the people is greatly against it! But what can the people do? Until next elections, either the people will forget, or new issues will arise... It is unfortunate, but you cannot talk about culture when it comes to issues like these!

Quote:
See iron foundries in Mauritania, see Gold and Copper mines in Indonesia, see and see and see.
First of all, as far as I'm concerned, the employees there work because they want to work. They get exploited because, either they don't have other choices, or because they don't know better.

Second of all, you are talking about a minority of very bad people. If only 1 Saudi arranged a marriage for his not-even-teenage daughter, we wouldn't have been here talking about this. But it is a wide-spread behavior. The "white man" that exploits Africans or Asians does not represent all white men! In fact, most white men are against such actions. But what can they do? As far as I'm concerned, such exploitations is possible because local governments have permitted these people to be exploited for personal gain too! Such things do not happen in Europe, because Europeans and their governments will not allow it to happen. But they have no power to do anything about what is happening in foreign and sovereign soil!

Quote:
I dont believe that ud tell apart ethical behavior from the unethical.
Believe what you want. Obviously you are the kind of people that have accepted the idea of moral relativism. Then you want to make lessons to other people for them to not care about social and moral issues that happen around the globe!

THAT is hypocrisy!

for all of you b*tching and moaning about an 8 year old.... here's article about the "good" products of your society:

Not one.... according to human rights watch, on average, we have 1 maid per week committing suicide (or being killed) in Lebanon!

The author extends this to all the inhumane (and sometimes brutal) treatment Syrian workers have rec'd in Lebanon since 2005 (There's about 870 missing Syrian workers in Lebanon since 2005). He notes that those 870 disappeared due to our society's (not government's) actions.

News my friend, ur modern "civilized" nations are the minority in terms of quantity. The term universal human rights is so freacking funny, since it originated from western countries, and know u want that label to stick to every human being on the planet. While the western countries enjoy their fancy caviar and wines, people in africa are starving from hunger because of decades of colonization and the abduction of their natural resources. And u want to come here and explain why ur morals are more prestene than theirs, that the morals instilled in a capitalist regime is "f*ck the other before he f*cks you*? they will tell u one thing my friend

This act of marrying children is far more reaching than u think. It is still practiced in the worlds most populated nations and areas; india, china and africa. So before ranting about reform in these countries, just think how much ur living off the back of that poor african man slavering all day to extract the minerals required to build ur expensive mobile phone for 0.50$/hour.

The nerve.
Dont come with all the world's misery to lessen the act of those barbaric rapers.
You think only you are aware of the situation of the developing countries?
Tell me what do you do to improve their situation, aside of your long and useless laments? Their problem needs to be tackled by its root, there is no other way than education!

Clearly you live in the past, and you dont want to look into the future. Your friends are all ghosts, and somehow out of space and time.

You like it or not, humans are progressing worldwide, they are becoming more civilized, and adopting new ways of life which brings them development instead of backwardness.
There are old traditions which can be preserved if it contributes positively to the people's heritage. But seriously tell me how is the tradition of raping little girls contribute positively?

Thats all fine, til then who is going to protect the victims? Shall we stand by and watching little girls being raped?
We can be "soft" on the people and at the same time save many from misery. I dont see why all these things shouldnt run parallely.

Come again? Care to guess what was the main issue last year that held most importance to the american people. Sorry to burst ur bubble but it wasnt health care.

Quote:

People vote for their governments on issues related to national economy, social services etc., not whether or not the government will sell weapons to third world countries!
Yes of course, a nation of feeble minded ignorant dogmatic retards, wouldnt care less if its government paved highways for wars in order to profit, just as long as they are doing fine, why give a f*ck about what their decisions are doing to people outside of their scope. Such a civilized behavior wouldnt u say?

Quote:
But again, this is not part of western culture! It is hypocrisy, it is unethical, but it is not part of our culture, and it is certainly not approved by the people! That doesn't mean the people will stop electing the same leaders because of this one issue! Most people forget (arms deals mostly happen after elections, not before them).
Read history and u will see that ur entire nations were built on the backs of others. Your heritage screams out oppression and invasion. Dont give me that bull "about we are not which we were". History is continuous, its like a story, one cant leave out an entire sections and choose the one he pleases. This sort of behavior is rooted deep inside of ur culture, and the evidence to it is the deformed shape of colonization embodied by international corporations holding sway over 3rd world countries governmental and economic decisions. Just like the old saying goes "Politics are the shadow of big business".

To understand why all these criminal act of trading arms go unnoticed in most "civilized" would point at how passive and numb said nations collective consciousness has become and how accepting and forgiving this culture has become of said injustices committed. Because this has been going on for so long; the injustice, the genocides, the theft, that it has become part of ur culture, its become of the norm. And even if it gets noticed The attitude usually is "bleh let them kill each other as long as im getting a good salary why should i care".

Quote:
Yserlak! Hope you don't get born a gay woman in a ethnically and politically oppressed minority, in one of those country you like to compare as better than the west!
Yserleh? Shou 3am nel3ab bet byout w 3am nshouf min bayto akbar?
Actually i strive for a simple life, going back to nature. So i wont mind if i were to be born as a chinese farmer, or the sort.

Oh and by the way do you invent things i have never said to make ur argument stand? Or do u suffer from epilepsy? I said that some country with an oppressed minority is better than the western countries? Hey i must be smarter than i think.

Quote:
"Throughout centuries"... You know, slavery is abolished in the 19th century. Back then, it was as common as McDonalds... In fact, the rest of the world has known slavery practically until the end of the 20th century. Some forms of slavery still exist today in these third world countries!
I get the feeling that u think im an advocate for 3rd world countries. Even though i dont like to call them that, but ill roll with u. Care to point where i had said such a thing? Oh wait must a figment of ur imagination.

Quote:
And yes I do know what civilized means! It means that if I get in a car accident, the other person won't get out of his car and beat the hell out of me! It means that if I were a woman that had sex before marriage, I wouldn't get stoned. It means that if I were a woman, I wouldn't be forced to get married at 8 years old! It means that if I am part of a minority, I wouldn't get discriminated against. It means I have rights, politically, socially, legally!
Does that mean that u are equal to say, um i dont know....a billionaire? You think u can just solve an ages old dilemma, an issue that has had philosophers battling each other over millenia over the same issue? U need to learn some humility.

Quote:
I don't get the feeling that people are robots here. Nor do I think that my government is controlled by corporations... In the states it is true, but let's not generalize... Mindless robot... lol! Look who's talking! I guess either you've never lived in Europe, either you've never lived in Lebanon... Coz you're stereotypes are so wrong! Besides, a government being controlled by big corporations is called corruption. Something that, in our cultures, is seen as a bad thing! In the countries you love so much, people don't care for corruption!
The manner in which u express yourself is very hectic, ideas are everywhere. Try to relax.
I think (in my most humble opinion), that said populaces civility can be measured by how much the people are ready for action and sacrifice in order to do the right thing. Basically the measure of the collective consciousness, when action is accepted on wide scale to fight indignities then u can start talking about civilized behavior. But of course these are all just theories, u cant apply them on human societies, because there will always be personal benefits for the people demanding such reform. Example given: the bourgeoisie in the french revolution.

So according to ur logic, illegally selling arms to warring nations for profit is corruption and decay also. So our grand "civilized" people to care about corruption. This is very obvious, i need not give example. Heh, Europe talks about America as if its a separate entity. News flash? Its the U.S.A that rebuilt western Europe and re stimulated its economy after WW2. Of course not out of generosity, but because of fear of communism spreading. So when u talk about the U.S's government corruption and controlling, European counterparts are usually not that far off from the same truth. But i have to give u credit, the french are really educated and exert some kind of pressure on governmental regulations, but no to the extent portrayed to the world :).

Quote:
And yes, I do think I have the right to judge others. As far as I'm concerned, I would never force anyone to do anything. Specially in the name of culture!
Good for you.

There ss no democratic ruling functioning in the world today. In order for a democratic system to work, a nation of would have to be shaped in small proportions, in order for the whole of the populace to gather once a law or a decree has to be made. In order for the people of said nation to vote on said matter. This whole democratic behavior is a farce. At best.
