I speed straight through and here's why.

A couple of years ago, I was going down one of our beloved highway (yes highway with traffic lights ) here in Virginia and it was turning yellow. I still had a few yards before I got to the intersection so I slowed down then sped up then slowed again and finally decided to make a go for it.

Of course knowing my luck, a cop was there and I got pulled over. Instead of getting a ticket, I got a lecture about what a bad thing I did, not about passing a red light, but about the slow down speed up slow down speed up. He said that doing so is a lot more dangerous than just going through a red light because it confuses the other motorists around and could result in a bigger accident.

Since then, once I see a yellow light and I'm close enough to the intersection, I just put the pedal to the metal and zip through.

Wel ne3em! You got lucky that you got away with a lecture instead of a ticket. I don't know how tough is law enforcement where you live in the US, but in most european countries, you will loose a lot of precious money by passing through an orange.

I always put my seatbelt on,
-Not because it is the rule
-Not because i might hit someone
-Because i am afraid that some crazy Lebanese driver might be flying with his car w ytayerne ma3o

I dont have a Swedish driving licence yet, but off course when i do i will wear the seat belt. I was just making a point in my former post but i wear the seatbelt because it makes me feel safe and who knows maybe someday it might save my life!
I put the seatbelt on even if i am not the one driving but sitting next the person who is!

I did not mean high speed as in over the speed limit, it's a speed that is relatively high when compared to an orange light that is about to go red.

So you hit the brakes even though the situation would probably mean an accident

Mind you, I did not say press on the gas paddle, it's just cross the signal if the orange lights on and you're almost close to cross it anyway.

There's slow speed at 40/50 km/h and high(er) speed at 80/85 km/h on the same road.

That is the exact definition for an orange light:

An amber light means that you must not go beyond the stop line or, if there is no stop line, beyond the light. However, you may go on if you are so close to the line or the light when the amber light first appears that stopping would be dangerous.

Traffic lights - Road Safety Authority Rules of the Road

And that is exactly what I was portraying.

That's incorrect as you do not stop before checking as per above

I'd be interested in a reference that says you should stop at orange no matter what..

Another reference,

Q: I went through on amber. There was a Police Officer who stopped me and has alleged I went through on red, so it is my word against his. Can I fight the allegation?

You can dispute the allegation, but the mere fact that the lights were not red, does not provide you with a defence. If you crossed on amber, you have still committed the offence, unless you can show that it was unsafe to stop. If the Police Officer can convince the Court that there was no reason why you should not have been able to stop on amber, you could be convicted. The fact that it is his word against yours does not prevent a prosecution, although clearly, the outcome will depend heavily on each party's version of events/credibility.
