You can cover your eyes and walk blindly all you want, that doesn't change the fact that materialism is eating the population on the inside. What you find in Lebanon, you never find anywhere else.
So im walking blindly just because i criticized the way you view things? Thats a bit pretentious dont you think?

Materialism is not eating it from the inside out. Just like to samy societies in the world today, we have a struggle of cultures in our country. Where core values are being broken and some others are being fearcly preserved. You cant generalize and say that the whole of our society has crumbled into decay. Why i can give you a million examples of people living in rural areas who still uphold ancient values and customs. You must remember that we are not a fully westernized society, large portions of the populations are still clinging to their roots.

I wonder, from where we did get thos materialistic traits....?

Nope, they're not like the dumbies we have. They have social security, medicare, safety, good economic conditions...etc. "yet" they don't "think" of taking "loans" for plastic surgeries. Such shallowness is called "Lebanese desperation".
Dalzi your argument is become ill proportioned and irrellevant imo. You are stating nothing more than your personnal opinion and views on things, no graphs no statistcs.

Btw I thought it was a platitude; how materialistic westernerz are.

Dalzi has a point about SOME Lebanese woman, how they tend to behave, and how cheap their plastic look is. (though it costed a fortune:D)

Now whether these women represent the vast majority, who can tell that precisely? Do you have any statistics about it?
Or was it an ironic joke to ask for statistics? Its like you want statistics about the number of gays in Lebanon:D You never heard that the last official census took place in 1932?:D

So its very fine to state here your personal view and experiences.

a friendship between a girl and a guy is something very precious, but some girls in our lebanese society have just the "ICQ-flow up" mentality unfortunately, so they can't stand that...

No, of course not because of our different opinions :).

I didn't say all friendofzeus, i agree with what you said. It's the other influence that i'm talking about, and the influence is BIG. It's actually dangerous. I have mounting respect for those who honor their roots and cling to them no matter how hard the winds may be. It's a challenge, and only strong people can remain geniune. I truly respect those wherever they are. Those are the people i like to call "friends".

It's the truth of what you see "on a Lebanese night". Hit the streets. No wonder they've called us "kabareh 3al hawa".

If you want to compare the westerners to those who try to be westerners in Lebanon, you'd see the difference between the real and the fake. The fake is very shallow and stupid.

Salome, it has reached an alarming rate! And no one's doing anything to discourage what's happening. It's not healthy, neither for body nor mind. Material obsession is a disease, and it's untreatable when you're ready to do anything for it. They run after you if you look good or if you're rich without knowing what kind of a person you are! This is the case in Lebanon. Why do Saudis love it then? :D

Unlike homosexuality statistics, plastic surgery statistics are performed on a daily basis and on a global scale. There are a number of branches that do just that, to measure the number of plastic surgeries performed in each countries. And as i see it were really far from being a top tier plastic surgery country.

The flow of such rhetoric is detremental if you want to prove anything. Your point of view has no factor in the validity of the argument you present.

You see the misshapes of generalizing, you end saying something you didnt mean.

Would i ever dare accuse you of being materialistic?

Of course in some parts of lebanon this type of lifestyle is prevalent, but another more reserved, conservative is also prevalent in large parts of the country. The conflict of cultures and customs in our country is at its peak.

Wow such reverence to westernerz in this forum. Kind of reminds of me the christian lebanese mentality (although i believe you arent christian ). This modern materilistic trait derives from a capitalist background. Capitalism == west...any link?

True, but it doesn't matter as long as the good don't change. Who cares about the rest? :D We can't do anything... Sweet home... wherever we are . If I don't live on the Island i want to live on, i'm going to return to Lebanon and settle on the top of a southern mountain! :D

Materialism is embedded in their social and economic structure. We have yet to reach this point. Consumption is a core foundation on which many western economies levy on.
