concerning diamonds

i have one scientific question

when this jewel fad first took up roots it was due to kings and tribe leaders and lords getting those shiny jewels and putting them on their wives and concubines..

now the scientific question is..

by putting all those shiny rare trinkets on their women, where the kings adding value to their wives or were their wives adding any value to the cold shiny rare jewels..?

Basic unscientific answer... The ring is nothing but a chain you wrap around her finger instead of her throat :D But the problem is if something goes wrong, the ring might probably leave a mark on your face :P
