Do you find yourself staring at the sky too often? Do you day dream about flying above the clouds, or a few feet off the ground?
Stop dreaming, start flying.
For anyone who's interested in aviation, i.e. pilot, air traffic controller, etc., feel free to use this thread to ask questions.

For anyone who's interested in aviation, i.e. pilot, air traffic controller, etc., feel free to use this thread to ask questions. | Oh YESS CedarJet! Exactly as you said! I would like to learn to fly a small plane one day.
I know you are a pilot, so I would be glad if you would share with us your aviation experiences!
To fly a small plane what kind of exams must I take? Are there any for example from higher physics? I am not a maths genius.
I dont know how is it in Lebanon, but here in Hungary costs :Censored::Censored::Censored::Censored: much a flight lesson, so its a very expensive hobby what I cant afford just now, but I hope I would in the near future.

The minimum usually for driving, is 20/40 meaning that you can see at 20 feet what mostly everyone can see at 40 feet.
I wear glasses and i am pretty sure my vision is 20/20. Anyway nothing the laser surgery cant fix. | | | | | Registered Member

First of all I'll let you know that you do not need a degree in math or physics to fly. You will be tested on very basic physics and math, and only subjects that apply directly to flying.
It's expensive in Europe and Lebanon, mostly due to higher fuel prices, plus it's not as commercialized. What I suggest is that you go to your local airport and find a flying club and take an intro flight. Those are usualy anywhere from $50-100 and it allows you to fly for 30-60 minutes in a small plane. Get a group of 3 and go, that way you can all split the price.
Lebanon has about 4 flight schools/club, 3 at Beirut and 1 in Koleyat airport. I wouldn't suggest them for professional training, for a hobby however, they'll do the job.
MEA is accepting applications now for Cadet pilots. If anyone is interested in that, I can explain it to you in a nut shell, as to how the system works.

For me it will be definitely just a hobby, just for the sake of enjoying to fly a plane!
And what are your experiences with flying? Are you a professional pilot? And what kind of planes do you fly? | | | | | Registered Member

Middle East Airlines is inviting applications from young, motivated, hard working, and creative Lebanese nationals to train as First Officers (co-pilots). They will be required to function as part of the flight crew (pilots) of modern aircraft on MEA’s state of the art new fleet.
For more information about MEA Cadet Pilot Training Program - 2006, visit MEA's website and go to the Career section.
Here's a breakdown of how it works.
Cost of joining MEA --> $100,000 USD to be paid fully by the candidate. (ouch, I know)
If you can pay this upfront if will be $40,000 first payment, followed by 2 payments of $30,000.
If you cannot come up with this amount, you will have to get your parents to put up their house or land or something of that sort so that in case you do break your commitments, MEA can go after you and collect their money. You will however need to come up with $18,000 as a first payment, no and ifs or buts.
Second, they will send you to spain to train at a local flight school there for approximately 1 year. Once you return you will have to get the Lebanese licence conversion, and then do your MEA training. They will sit you in the jumspeat (the seats behind the two pilots) and you will watch how it's done. The time spent in the jumspeat will vary, there are many factors that affect it.
You will also be required to sign for another $60,000, and that is for the training that you will receive on the Airbus. That $60,000 will be waived after 12 years, so that means you cannot leave MEA before that many years, or else you're gonna have to pay up that $60,000.
Once you finaly get released as a First Officer, or co-pilot, you will make a whopping $2,000 + change. From that, you will most likely have to pay back your loans, pay for all the fees that are associated with being a pilot (union fees, medical fees, etc, etc, etc.).
Now that's how it works, but ofcourse for more details, do go on to their site for further explanation.
I won't say what I think of this hiring practice, but if someone is interested feel free to ask. | | | | | Registered Member
