And by the way, Ecuador is indeed Equateur in French : which represents, if you know a bit of geography, the horizontal line that separates the globe in two parts : south and north. For your information, french language, which is very well known for specific descriptions, existed long time before spanish started to be spoken.

In Italian they say : Equatore (the "e" sounds like an "é"). Maybe italians are stupid to, what do you think ???

Trinidad : in french is "trinité", that is the traduction !!!!it means "the christian doctrine" in both languages !!!

As for "Liban" is the french for "lubnan", and "lebanon" its english version.

I suggest that we should stop throwing silly remarks that have nothing to do with sports, especially that it might hurt a lot of lebanese guys that are half french and do feel part french and proud of it !!!!

cheers,

Napo
thank u for the lecture i know that ecuador=equateur in french.

And I would like to thank you because thanks to you, I am relieved. Indeed I am relieved to see that there is still descent people like you, in Lebanon that do remember, and do recognize that France has a great football history, and amazing records made by great men !!!!

It is equally a releif for me to know that we still have people in Lebanon like you who are independant enough to form it's own opinion about Soccer and life.

French Football is one of the best in the world. In fact, here in Canada, even the English-speaking people are jalous of French soccer, yet they would never want to miss a French game!!!!

They watch the French play Soccer and they criticise them...

But they would never want to miss France in a Football game...

The way how the French play is simply spectacular. They play in the air, on the ground, they do some trackings, jumpings, headers, volley kicks...everything!!!

Most importantly, they play as a team. In the French squad, all the players are big for us, even those sitting on the bench.

In Euro 2000, when the French won against Italy, the 2 players that scored the goals to make France win the Final where done by players who just got off the bench (Wiltord, Trezeguet).

Despite that, people still think that we cheated in France '98....

Bass shou badak ta khayyi, here in Lebanon, people seem to forget all this, or maybe it is ignorance, I don't know. It seems like they forget forget great french football personalities such as Just Fontaine, Raymond Copa, Michel Platini, etc.... Not to mention the players we have today such as Thierry Henry (who is considered by many experts as one of the best, some of them say the best Striker in the world), or Zinedine Zidane who is as famous as pelee in all the world, maybe more.

That is true. Bro, in Lebanon, the people has not yet succeeded at having their own independant opinion.

They follow the crowds for they don't want to be pressurised if you think different then them.

France has some of the best, Kopa was a big legend in which we can never forget.

Cantona, Papin, Boli...those where good too.

Tigana, Amoros, Platini, Fernandez, Giresse, Tresor...walla, those where Hidalgo's boys and they where the first to make France the giant team that it is today.

Titi is an amazing striker. They love him in England. Even Michael Owen was not capable of doing what Henry did.

He also broke many English Premier League records, which prove that the French are as good as the English in a championship which has the best of English players (past and present).

Zidane is a great player. For a #10, I find him to be exceptional.

He is not explosive on the field like Maradona or Pele, but as a "player", he is fantastic. European Football is based on teamwork, whereas South American Football is based on one-on-one individual showdowns...

That is why Pele and Diego where capable of being a "one-man team".

But Zidane is capable of being that too, he proved it in the past (especially when he scored 2 goals in his first ever game for France against the Czechs in Bordeaux).

However, he is a team player, and he is excellent at passing the ball, scoring goals, covering lots of grounds, defending, attacking...all of it.

He plays with the ball by using all side of his body (with the exception of the hand and arms).

The only problem is that I find him to be a bad captain, he is not like Didier Deschamps, and I think that Patrick Vieira would make a better captain then Zizou right now.

But nonetheless, he is a fantastic #10 and the most respected and loved Footballer in the world.

Shou bi 3arefni ya Aliarz, they should be proud of France, or what France may achieve. As you said, there is an old secular history between France and Lebanon. Forget about Chirac a little bit ya guys, nobody likes him in France. France is much bigger than Chirac !!!!

100% in agreement. Chirac does not represent all of France.

Some people say they are arrogant ???? chou hal haki ??? Wallaw ?? You should then see how British are arrogant. Go and have a look at British newspaper how they keep bashing the french team and everything called french. Watch BBC when France is playing a match, they keep insulting us as if french people were stupid !!! Walla Haram !!!!

Elwa!!! All, the English, Germans and even Italians are far more arrogant then the French.

Let's take their Football as an example...

In the English squad, we do not see Indians, Pakistanis, Chinese, Thai, Iraqis and more in their composition.

All I see is "Englishmen" of English descent and 2 or 3 players of Jamaican ancestry.

It has always been like this, and I find it to be very arrogant from their part.

Even the English media has criticised racism in England, where it has been reported that there are Footballers who are Indian---and they never get a chance in the Premier League or the English National Team.

In Euro 2004, before their showdown with France for Game 1, they made a commercial of them being Crusaders, hopping in a horse and all, and their enemy in the commercial was the French team.

Although I am sure it was based on humour, I find it hard to beleive that this commercial was not arrogant...

What did they get in return?...

A goal by Lampard...true.

But then...a superb save by Barthez against Beckham...and 2 great goals by Zidane.

That commerical happened to remain in their dreams...

Les Bleus where at it again!!!...

What is interesting to note, is that the English team does not have a Hindu player...yet France has got one in Vikash Dhorasoo!!!

Vikash is from Ile Maurice, but he is still Desi by ethnicity and Hindu by religious indentity.

When the Desis around the world saw that, you will not beleive how many of them started supporting Les Bleus over England...

As for the German team, it is only recently that they started adding multiculturalism in their squad...after they learned that time has changed and they can no longer do it by themself.

Despite that, the Germans are still racist upon selecting players.

Let's not forget when Germany lost 2-0 against Algeria in World Cup 1982 (Spain).

The night before the match, the German players where like: "I will score one goal for my wife, another one for my son" and all that ****.

Instead, they scored none and Algeria won. Germany was in the Final against Italy in that tournament.

No one talked about this event as much as they talk about the French embarassment of World Cup 2002.

What about the Italians?...

Remember Euro 2000?...

The Italians where leading 1-0...and 90 seconds was left remaining on the clock...

The Azzuris where already celebrating, some where combing their hair and others where chanting good-bye songs for France...yet no one saw this as arrogant...

Then came the infamous Wiltord equaliser, and the Italians where in huge shock.

Extra Time was in, and Trezeguet scored his Golden Goal.

Italy...out.

Indeed, this was a lesson for them in order to let them know that arrogance has no place on the Football pitch.

The French played and continues to play with humility in every game.

And by the way, The french team has never been as humble as they are today. They do learn from their mistakes !!! Listen to Domenech when he is talking about the other teams : He do respect them a lot and give them credit !!!!! But go and see the archive when South Corea was going to face france, Coreans were all saying that france is a very weak team that they are going to beat them by4-0........Nice and clever !!! We saw what happened ..... not to mention the huge mistake made by the referee otherwise France would have won 2-1 against South Corea !!!!!

Walla!!! Bro, I was surprised by the Koreans' arrogance.

And on the pitch, against France, they committed lots of errors...

What did they get in return? An elimination from the tournament...

No one saw their statement as arrogant...but all was taken care of...

What I like about the French team, is the fact that when they play against any team, you never know who will win.

This prove that they respect their opponents on the field and they play according the the style of their opponent...

What more do people want?...

The French play according to the rythm of the game...

Whereas the Germans for example, we know they will score 10-0 against a team like Saudia Arabia...

I don't like this style of play because it proves nothing.

When you see them play, they kill the rythm of the game and all they care about is scoring goals...

Football is not only about scoring goals...

But Spain for example, they played as a team, and they scored 1-0 against KSA...

They could have scored 16 goals in that game...but they didnt, because their style is a lot like the French: they play according to the rythm of the game.

They play as a team and they respect their opponents.

Yet, I know that the French team plays better then the Spaniards in this style of game.

On the Football pitch, the French are always fun to watch, no matter against who they play---because their game are always based according to the level of their opponent and they play according to that rythm.

This make the game more fun to watch and unexpected results are always produced.

Moreover, nowadays, there is no such thing as a "small team".

All of them are big, and the French where the first to acknowledge that.

Fabien Barthez said it himself this week: "There is no such thing as a small team today".

I dont see any arrogance in that...

But the Koreans where mocking Zidane for being old, and the French for being washed up....they where talking like if they where "Football giants"...

Now they are out of the World Cup, it ought to teach them something...

To this day, teams like Italy, England, Germany, and even Argentina and Brazil---are still playing like if they are "giants" and they still view new teams like "small team".

Not so with the French. They view every team like a competition.

They have always been humble, and like you said, today, they are more humble then ever.

Bro, remember when I mentioned the Italians' arrogance in the Final game against France at Euro 2000?...

Remember World Cup 1982 in Spain, when Michel Hidalgo's French team where playing against Germany in the semi-finals?

Even when the French where leading, none of the French players nor did the coach started celebrating like if the game was over (like the Italians did in Euro 2000).

They kept on being serious and humble even when the penalty shot was on...

And even when the penalty shootings showed that Les Bleus where about to win it...they remained humble...

And at the end, they lost...

Yet, even if they lost, we can tell that their humbleness is what saved them from being embarassing as opposed to the Italian's short celebration in Euro 2000...

Walla man, nothing is bigger then the humbleness of Les Bleus so far!!!

Bass maalech, Long live to France (I know that french people adore Lebanon and the Lebanese), and may god help them to win this world cup.

Inch'Allah, "Vive La France...et le Liban Libre!"...

Cheers,

Napo
Great analysis by Napo.

I really liked what you said, and God Willing, I hope this tournament will be a good one, wether France will win or not.

But of course, with Les Bleus in it, I hope they can break new records in this Mondial...just like their predecassors.

Take good care,

Ali Arz :LEBANON:

Or...les Espanola a la mi casa...

Spain is a big team. They are the only squad so far who showed no disapointment and the only one who look promising.

After France, I like Spain because they are fun to watch.

It's hard for me to see how France can win over a determined Spain...

But all is possible...

I still think that France has got more tools to their advantage and it is very likely that they can beat Spain and face Brazil (if they win against Ghana).

This match is going to be big, because whoever wins in France - Spain, I tend to support one of them.

Allez les Bleus!...
