Default Is the Spanish League that weak or Barca/Real that good? - 26th September 2009

This is my question.Lets first check the results..

Real Madrid have 15 points out of 15. They have 16 goals and only 2 conceded.Average of 3 goals per game, and 0.2 conceding. They are beating every oponent by 3 goal margin. Real that good?? or the oponents weak?

Barcelona have 12 points out of 12.They have 14 goals and conceded only 3.
Thats 3.5 goals per game, and conceding 0.6 goals per game. Again they are beating every oponent by 3 goal margin. Not just that, if you watch the games or check the results..they are finishing off the games in the first half 3 - 0 or 4 - 0 sthg..
is barca that good or spanish league that bad??

I am really curious to read opinions of spanish league watchers..

It's both. You have top four players in the world playing for two clubs who face no real competitors in their league.

Saladin is right, it's a little of both.

For example, if you compare the regular spanish teams to the regular Italian teams and the regular english teams, they are all almost the same level, the difference is that in england and spain you have at least 4 teams in each that are top level instead of 2, that's what changes everything, that's what makes more equilibration in the italian and english leagues than in the spanish one.

Of course they are strong. Look at type of players they have and their capabilities and you can see why they play at this level.

Spanish teams are not powerful to be honest. Compare Italy's Palermo, Udinese, Sampdoria ( second rate teams compared to Milan, Juventus, Inter, Roma, Fiorentina, Lazio, Genooa) to Spain's Getafe, Athletico Bilbao,Zaragoza, Mallorca. I mean there is a difference. Besides what first rate teams do Spain have to match Roma , Firoentina , Lazio and so ? They have Atheltico Madrid and Valencia. Athletico have very awful defense though even if they're attack is really good. What even makes the comparison even worse is that Italy's weaker teams are more conservative in their play. When facing big teams like Milan, Juventus or Inter, they sometimes play 10 players on the defense.hehe. In Spain, however, the teams tend to play a more "fair" kind of play, by truly showing who is the better side. This is why Italian relegation teams or second and third rate teams beat the higher teams or draw with them more than their Spanish counterparts do with Real and Barcelona.

Also one more reason is that the teams that come in third and fourth and fifth place in the Spanish league are not consistent, which means you don't have teams like Roma, or Genoa and Fiorentina that always fight for top spots. So In Spain the teams are either very powerful or just weak. In Italy, you see them go in a bit more gradual sense. Powerful, less powerful, average, weak , weaker.

I don't know about a comparison to the other leagues. However, I think the Premiere League has a bit more competition than La Liga, simply because even the weakest teams play very classy football. But when it comes to competition, the Spanish league is probably the weakest. And don't be surprised that with the rise of Barcelona and Real Madrid right now, it will even be duller and less competitive. I suppose the only teams that will show good performances are Real, Barca, Sevilla and Valencia. Villareal just happened to drop like all Spanish inconsistent teams and Athletico Madrid despite their huge stars in offense have the most awful defense ever.

One more quick notice is youth players. Youth players in Serie A and Premiere league are acquired by even the weakest teams. In Spain, they are dominated by Barcelona and then other top teams.

Very true. However you must admit that Italy's top teams(Juve, Milan, Inter) have recently become weak in comparison with those of England and Spain. This, along with what you've said, qualifies the premier league to be the top league in the world.

I have to agree. The top 4 add to them Manchester City and Tottenham who are very likely to snatch a top 4 position this season. And then solid teams like Aston Villa and Everton and even Stoke surprisingly. My favourite is the Italian league for obvious reasons that Milan play in it and because none of its results are predictable whatsoever; it's like a chaotic league. But fairly the best league overall is the Premiere League. I mean I sometimes feel urged to watch matches between the weakest teams. In the Spanish league I would never do that not even matches for powerful tams like Valencia or Sevilla. I only watch Real Madrid and Barcelona. It's all about the stars in Spain now. Too bad.

i want to say something here
i don't watch the spanish league , i only watch the english premier league , but there's something really good in the spanish league , there's always surprises in matches
okay maybe the first 4 teams are always the same but u always see teams in the bottom of the league defeating some strong teams wich can really spice up the league
this is something we don't see in the english premiership , anyway in the end it's always a competition between 4 teams in either leagues

You know, this season Man Untied have lost to none but Burnley who has entered the premier division for the first time in more than 25 years.
