I didn't know much about the existance of this sport in Lebanon till a friend of mine who plays for the AUB rugby team told me this summer that he is participating in tournaments with the Lebanese National Team for Rugby. So I guess that means there is a Lebanese National team, probably formed of university students, since we don't have a league.
I also saw them practicing in "La Guava resort", they had like 2 coaches. They said they were practicing for a tournament in England (that was in August).

Guys the Ruby Lebanese team, is a Rugby League, you've got two kinds of Rugby, Rugby Union and Rugby League.

The Union is the International Game, where they have World Cup... which was held last year in Australia, we lost against England :( by one field goal.

Anyways The difference is that The Wallabies ( who are The Union Team) are different then the Kangaroos ( Who are the League Team) I personaly prefer the League game, it's quicker and more agressive, but unfortunately, the game is not as popular yet and not renouned internationally except in the commonwealth countries like New Zealand, Australia and england, the Reason why Lebanon is there, bcz of the Profesional players in our NRL (National Rugby League) who are from a lebanese background or descent... the Most famous would be Hazem el Mazri, who holds the record for the best field goal kicker in the league.

Hope that has explained a little bit about the game :)
Cheers.

Motorcity, hehe that's probably a better analysis.

Sydney, I saw a rugby league game and they were talking about the australian team as the wallabies, but what you said is weird because i thought the league was more popular. I watched a union game and it was really dull in my opinion.

No Wallabies are the Union Team, and yes Union is more Popular and more renoun world wide! even in the states Union is more famouse then League, i think u are mistaken bewteen league and union.
League is where u have 5 chances of attacking to score a try, if u dont u'll have to pass on the ball to the other team.
Union is a none stop game, u keep on rumbelling and kicking! lol pretty dumb at times :P but popular, because it has been around longer the league.
League first started in Australia, in 1920's, specifically in Sydney, first teams were south, st george and east.. followed by the BullDogs....

where as The Union has been around for alot longer.

The Reason why The Lebanese National team is good.. bcz all the lebs in Sydney/Australia luv League and not Union.. hense their intrest and talent lays there :)

Oh well we play union over here then. I personally think it's better than league. As u said it's a faster game with more action. I find the league games very dull and slow, but if the majority og the Lebanese in australia play league then how are they good in union (isn't that what they play in the world cup)?

PS: Excuse my ignorance i just started playing the game 2 months ago

In the World cup yes they Play Union. But the Lebanese team that you guys are talking about, it's a League Team. In conclusion, the lebanese national team is a League team not union. So the Rugby they are playing is not the one that u guys watch on TV and not the same one as last year's world cup.

But Leagues is ALOT better then union... at least that's what i think :)
