Default PSG - Paris St Germain - 5th May 2008

In Paris, there is a great football team : the Paris St Germain, also know as PSG.

The club has been in the nineties in the top Europeans clubs with many Champions league participations, they also won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1996, they were in the top French teams, winning several times the French cup, the coupe de la Ligue, and the French championship.

Today, at 2 days from the end of the french league, they are on the 18th place, and they face a big danger of being relegated to the 2nd french football division (Ligue 2).

I am asking a question for the PSG's fan, and more generally to the french football fans, what they think of the current club situation ?

Why a great club like the PSG has arrived to this point ?

I have my own point of view, and i will be glad to share it throughout discussions in this thread.

Team honoursA small reminder of what this club has previously achieved :

- UEFA Cup Winners' Cup :
Win : 1996
Final : 1997

- Championnat de France :

* Champion : 1986, 1994
* Vice-champion :1989, 1993, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2004
* Third : 1983 1992 1995

- Coupe de France : 7 times won, Coupe de la Ligue : 3 times won

Too many expectations and lots of spending, however little vision and guidance from the club's management, which affected coaching and the players..

PSG: you mean Paris Sans Gardien

I would enjoy every minute of PSG's upcoming season in the second division.

One more thing, PSG didnt win the UEFA cup, they actually won the Cup winners cup, a competition that is no longer alive.

Cheers

Paris Sans Gloire, or Pas Sûr de Gagner, (or more heavy ones ) ... anyway ... (i am a PSG fan )

PSG in the 2nd division would be a big problem for the small clubs and the French Football in general because when PSG plays away games, all the stadiums are fully booked (so the Ligue 1 without PSG, means a financial loss for the other clubs) , without talking on the TV transmission rights ...

the way things are going, nothing will save the french league. We will only miss 2 classicos unless Marseille & PSG will end up meeting in the cup as usual

Do you think that LeMans will miss filling out their 16K capacity stadium for one game? or Auxerre are gonna miss filling out their 18K stadium?

Its not like those teams have 80K stadiums, and a difference of 30K is something to think about.

Actually I would have preferred that the 3 teams PSG, Toulouse and Lens would avoid relegation, since they are good clubs, but unfortunately one is joining Metz and Strasbourg.

I guess I missed it.

PS: even if that means Marseille missing out on the Champions League, I hope Bordeaux beats Lyon for the title (I would have never thought I would be cheering for Bordeaux)

AAAALLEZ PARIS
PAAAARIS EST MAGIQUE !

i have loved this club ever since i was a little kid lol .. i don't really know why since i never went to paris or anything like that but i just love its history ..

Paris will always be the only team of the ligue 1 that never went down to the ligue 2 :)

This season has been catastrophic tho even tho after today's draw with Sainté and our rivals lossdestiny.. and we could still dream of a es we are masters of our Coupe de la Ligue/Coupe de France double in 2 weeks :)

About why we got there, imo it is lack of ambition from Colony Capital that refused to spend enough money to recruit worthy players, hoping that normal Ligue 1 players can handle the pressure of playing at the most exposed club in France. I can name a lot of players that were good before they came to Paris, that sucked in Paris and are good again ( Ligue 1 Standards ) now that they left Paris : Hellebuyck, Landrin, Pancrate ...
We need to recruit players that can handle the pressure to play for such a club and we need a much better recruitment cell ... this year's recruits were catastrophic .. ceara, souza, everton ...

A special mention for God that played his last match at the Parc des Princes today, Thank you Pedroooo Migueeeel Pauletaaaaaa !!!

I love PSG because i'd rather finish 17th in Ligue 1 and win cups than finish 4th every year and get nothing.
I love PSG because it's a rollercoaster of emotions every season.
I love PSG because everyone else hates PSG :)

PS: fpm_70652 did you know there was a PSG Club Liban ( Fan Club ) couple of years ago ? ^^ i only knew about it the last year it was open and we did see some matches there and it was pretty nice .. it wasnt much .. just a locale and a big screen TV but the atmosphere was pretty nice.

PSG draws at home with St-Etienne 1-1, while Lens and Toulouse both lose away... Not sure if that is a great move by PSG, however they are now one point ahead of Lens and Toulouse and out of the relegation zone temporarily...

16. PSG: 40 pts (-9)
17. Toulouse: 39 pts (-7)
18. Lens: 39 pts (-9)

Last games:

Lens vs Bordeaux
Sochaux vs PSG
Toulouse vs Valenciennes

It is a good result because if we win at sochaux the last matchday we won't have to worry bout the results of Lens or To Loose. And even if we don't win, if one of those 2 teams lose their last match then we are sure to stay in the Ligue 1. I expect Toulouse to win their last match because valenciennes have been really crappy the last few weeks and they are playing at home, but i can't see Lens beating Bordeaux with the way they have been playing the last few weeks.
Of course we would have prefered to win the match on saturday but Sainté were the best team in Ligue 1 the last 2 months and we cld have easily lost that match yesterday.

Anyways i'm sure we will beat sochaux who have nothing to play for the last matchday and go on to beat Lyon in 2 weeks :p

And hopefully Nancy will win their last match so that Marseille don't qualify for the CL ^^

PSG vs Lyon will be on France 2 or France 3 ( most probably France 2 ) and could also be broadcasted on Al Jazeera Sports.
I am not sure if any channel will broadcast Sochaux vs PSG, ART Sports usually broadcast 3 or 4 games from the french league so they might broadcast it. Canal + Horizon will broadcast a multiplex where they won't focus on one match but will switch to any match where a goal is scored. I also heard that Dubai Sports broadcast the french league but i don't have the channel so i'm not really sure about that.
Personally i am gonna watch the multiplex to know the results in the other matches.
