Olympics is made for big countries. You easily see USA dominating always.
Enno if we send 1000 or 0 , embarassment is always there.

i don't think that is shameful....i think the fact lebanon is sending 5 is something to be proud of whether they win or lose.

lebanese has been plagued by war and instability and financial turmoil.

to be in the olympics one needs to have world class training facilities and also financial packages to the athletes who need to train during times people work.

in canada they pay Olympians like $25,000 per year so they can concentrate on training.

take for example UAE in the olympics- there ROyal family is sending 3 candidates to the olympics in 2008 (two women and i think the ruler of dubai (maktoum family)

lebanon has not won a medal since 1980 but other countries in the middle east have also not had success (syria for example).....

india in 2004 only had one medal and they have a billion people....

so taking into consideration lebanon's situation i would say 5 athletes, qualifying and competing against the best in the world is not something to be ashamed of.....

Good answer Les Taire, I am not ashamed of the 5 athletes of course. I am ashamed that we have sports and olympic committees who were never committed to sports. There are no events to bring attention to people, we want amateurs before we make professionals, we don't even have amateurs!

There are many things that do not require money to improve the athletic spirit.

Concerning Hungary, it is true that its communist past is basically its biggest factor in the olympic spirit. Should we switch to communism to have better athletes?

Let's take a country still communist:

Belarus, population is a bit more than double of Lebanon. GDP per capita is a bit less than Lebanon. Athletes: 41 times more than Lebanon (208 athletes).

I suppose its not about how well you do in the olympics, is how well you look in what you do in the olympics.

I say Long Live the Mozerland!

How can you say that our former Youth and Sports Minister wasn't committed to sports???

I heard he was paying a lot of young men to keep training in a summer camp. They were actually preparing for competition, but they were either shot down by the army or arrested and awaiting trial... The head of that department was a guy by the name of Shaker el-Absi...

Where are you living a dodzi walaw. Haven't you seen Hariri senior promising of great athletic future to Lebanon back in 1998?

Lebanon has not won a medal since 1980, in fact I believe only 3-5 medals in the history of Lebanon.....

So it's not exactly fair to blame Hariri......

On the brightside, Lebanon has contested at almost every olympics (both summer and winter) since 1948
