See what i mean? a game where 90% of it is based on a goalie, lacks variety.

Kamen wrong, in order to win a Stanley cup a team also needs to score.
I mean that, having a good goalie doesn't mean that you don't need good forwards to get far.

But the goalie is a very important player in the game. Just like football.
Have you ever seen a Mondial or Euro winner with a crappy or ordinary goalie (except Greece :P )??

Look at the New Jersey Devils, they have the best goalie of all times and some good enough forwards but they can't get far without a complete team.

you'd be surprised how far a good goalie can take you. the '00 Buffalo Sabres team had nobody of any consequence on offense yet still advanced to the stanley cup finals because dominik hasek carried them on his back. same thing applies to the '03 anahiem ducks with JS Giguiere. and new jersey won 3 cups because of martin brodeur while their offense was always mediocre at best.

Dam n right you lost.

And incidentally, the best goalie you are referring to is from - guess where - Montreal!

Canucks usually aren't very smart.

Just a small thing concerning the Devils 2002-2003 roster that actually won the Stanley cup:

Here are some of the players:
BRIAN GIONTA
BRIAN RAFALSKI
SCOTT NIEDERMAYER
PATRIK ELIAS
SCOTT GOMEZ
JAMIE LANGENBRUNNER

These are some of the best players in the league in addition to Martin Brodeur, so I don't think that this counts for a "mediocre" offense

im not saying they're minor leaguers, but i completely disagree with you when you say they are/were the best players in the league at the time. maybe elias or niedermayer stand out, but the rest are your average top 6 players. NJ was always known to live and die by its goaltending, which is why they were able to win 3 cups in the span of less than a decade. they are the exception and not the rule though, and nowadays a goalie can only take you so far before a team's dearth of offense catches up with it.

take the opposite, though, and its always the case. a team can NEVER win the stanley cup without great goaltending no matter how much talent it has.

Hehe,
it took me a couple of years to start liking the game too.

First it depends where you live.
If you're in Montreal it's easier to like the game since hockey is almost like a religion here, people eat, drink and sleep hockey !

Now, to start liking the game there are many interesting tips:

1) Try to watch a game in the stadium. It's a really good feeling, it's almost like a show, and it's like something you've never seen before

2) Try to learn the rules. Of course on your own it isn't that fun, you need to watch games on a regular basis with some friends and ask them about the rules.

Also try to learn about the other teams, the good ones, the bad ones, etc.

And of course pick yourself a player from your team (like people used to like Mechantaff, Khatib, Boustani, Hajj, Domyati) :D

You'll see it's a very fun game and with time you'll get to find the puck (hayde l'sawda yalli ma bta3rif chou esma :D ) based on the players' movements and experience :)

They told me that that russian guy (# 27 i guess) is their best i c a lot of his jerseys in Ottawa & the best player right now is also a russian in Washington.

to love the game i would like to know its history so i guess that the net & my friends are the best source.
