Through personal stories from performers such as Anne Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Colm Feore, Roy Dupuis, Jay Barachel, Tommy Lasorda, Jason Priestly, Gino Vanelli, Rick Mercer, Oliver Jones and Sam Roberts, among many other celebrities, THE MONTREAL CANADIENS: 100 YEARS – 100 STARS chronicles the story of the Montreal Canadiens beyond the ice. It traces the evolution of the city of Montreal, from the pre-war music halls and gambling dens, to the ensuing cultural explosion of the 1960s, the political uncertainty of the ’70s and ’80s, and the current rebirth of the city and the team today. This special reveals the vibrant culture of Montreal and how it is intrinsically tied to the most storied team in hockey history.
Stroumboulopoulos speaks with Canadiens legends Jean Béliveau, Henri Richard, Guy Lafleur, Guy Carbonneau, Bob Gainey and Ken Dryden about the legacy of the team, what it means to be a member of the Montreal Canadiens and the reason the team has struck a cultural chord with the people of Montreal, and Canadians from coast to coast.
