Schumacher Gets New Role At Ferrari!

Retired world champion driver Michael Schumacher is to stay with Ferrari as assistant to new Chief Executive Officer Jean Todt, the Italian outfit announced at Monza on Sunday.

The 37-year-old Schumacher retired as a driver after piloting his Ferrari to fourth place in the Brazilian Grand Prix last Sunday. The German won a record seven world titles and was with Ferrari as driver from 1996 until he retired.

Todt earlier this week was named Ferrari's new CEO, moving up from the position of General Manager, which went to Amedeo Felisa.

"We are eager to utilise Michael's knowledge and expertise for our technical and strategic needs," Todt told a news conference attended by Schumacher and his co-driver of last season Felipe Massa.

"It will not be necessary for him to be at our factory nor at our test sessions and races, but he will be an important interface for the all the important decisions," he added.

Schumacher said that he would leave it until December before fully getting to grips with his new responsibilities.

"For the moment I just want to get away from things and turn my attentions to my new life. After that I will see what I can do for Ferrari," he added.

That's how any sports man like Shumi end his career!
Leaving the field at his best and head to be an administration member.

Best of luck Schumacher, and hopefully you will rest from the envy

Schumacher voted the most popular Ferrari driver

Retired seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher is the most popular Ferrari driver of all time.

That is the finding of a survey conducted by the Italian daily sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, which said 49 per cent of the 16,887 readers who responded voted for the recently departed German.

At second place was Gilles Villeneuve, who died whilst practicing in his Ferrari in Belgium in 1982.

The French Canadian netted 22.6 per cent of the vote, ahead of Jean Alesi (10.8%), Nigel Mansell (6%), Niki Lauda (3.8%), and the late Michele Alboreto (3.7%) and Clay Regazzoni (1.7%).

Conspicuously missing from the top ten were Schumacher's recent team-mates Rubens Barrichello and Eddie Irvine, and also the highly successful Alberto Ascari and John Surtees.

With all do respect, I am not saying that Schumacher is not better than the previous drivers, but you need to remember that there is a bigger chance he gets more votes because Niki Lauda and Nigel Mansel whilst great drivers, are from the past, the voters most probably have not seen them race.

Michael Shumacher first season win was with the Benetton Ford, a car at that time not as good as the other cars on the circuit, this is what makes him a great driver. Villeneuve, Lauda, and Mansell were pushed by their cars, while Ferrari was pushed by Schumacher.

Schumacher's absence costs viewers

The retirement of Michael Schumacher appears to have cost Germany nearly a million TV viewers.

According to the latest official TV ratings, 1.41 million Germans tuned into Sunday's coverage of the Australian Grand Prix live.

That compares with free to air broadcaster RTL's 2.23 million viewers of the Melbourne race a year ago, when Ferrari driver Schumacher crashed in the Albert Park circuit's last corner.

2 million viewers, always forced to wake up early in the morning to catch the season opener, watched in 2005.

The German viewers watching Schumacher's Ferrari successor Kimi Raikkonen stroll to victory in 2007, however, represented a strong 50% market share.

You are right but what I meant is that Shumacher is much more recent thus his chance of getting more votes because the young generations know him more thats all. He shined at our time now, so ask any youth who is the best driver, he is gonna tell you Shumacher. I did not say he is not good, I just meant he has more chances to getting more votes due to the fact that he is the best NOW.
