Default Lebanon Football Team Welcomed by Syrian National Anthem - 9th June 2008

Oops!

That MUST have been funny! lol

Oops!RIYADH, 9 June 2008 The Saudi Vs. Lebanon match held at the King Fahd International Stadium here on Saturday had an unusual start after officials mistakenly played the wrong national anthem. Fans were left shocked and Lebanese players were visibly angry when the Syrian national anthem began blaring from the stadiums speakers, the Arriyadiyah sports daily reported yesterday. Officials quickly realized their mistake, and eventually played the correct national anthem. However, the error, which was committed by the organizing officials of the tournament, prompted the President of the Saudi Football Federation, Prince Sultan ibn Fahd, to order an official investigation into the incident. Saudi Arabia went on to win the World Cup qualifying match 2-1.

Strangely, it seems it passed unnoticed... Do people not care for such incidents? Do people not care for our national team?

Then why is it that the first I hear of this is in Dutch language newsblog, 2 days after the match was played???

The game was played on the 7th... You read it on the 9th... On a foreign newspaper website!

It is a true disappointment...

First, the head of the national team + players did not object or at least force them to play the Lebanese anthem again.

Second, our football federation is hopeless, wala shee abadan

Third, our sports minister is asleep

Fourth, our media is waaaaaaaaaaaay out of touch!
