I'm talking as a neutral side:

- ur defense is weak.. ur conceeded goals were not the goallie's mistake, keno defensive mistakes.
- first goal for costa rica is NOT an offside.
- u need to bring kahn back as a starter.... he is more experienced and wouldn't do such mistakes...
- Costa rica are an easy team.. so u should double ur efforts
- first and last goal were great...

your defense isnt that good,2 goals taken in by costa rica.what will you do against england???
but the first and last goals are pretty good, i'll give you that
the first one reminds me of birindelli's goal against deportivo 2 years ago in the champions league
actually the first goal reminds me of A. Brehme's goal against Hooland in the second round of the 1990 WC. similar shot, same position and similar type of player. inshallah the end result is like 1990

DODGY DEFENCE

Germany's 4-2 win over Costa Rica in the opening game of the 2006 World Cup put the German defence in the spotlight once again. Coach Juergen Klinsmann could have had no complaints with his side going forward, but at the back the frailties were there for all to see.

The statistics tell it all. Two Costa Rican shots on target and two Paolo Wanchope goals. Granted, Wanchope's finishing was first-class, but both times the lanky striker was left clean free to shoot past Jens Lehmann.

"Every first match is hard but we're happy that we won," said birthday-boy and double goalscorer Mirsolav Klose (28).

"It was our own fault (that Costa Rica scored). We stupidly gave the ball away and they got goals against us. They did a good job.

"We've got to do a better job in defence."

Coach Jürgen Klinsmann agreed.

"This is a World Cup opener so it's normal that there is nervousness and that leads to mistakes in the case of the two goals. The defence was in one line and Arne Friedrich didn't move."

For every bit the Germans looked world-class in attack, the hosts lacked conviction in defence.

Per Mertesacker made some telling runs forward, but at the back, he and Christoph Metzelder were left like statues against an ordinary side.

And Arne Friedrich was left standing for both goals when Wanchope was played onside by the German right-back.

If Danny Fonseca's finishing had been better, the final score could have been 4-4, with the Costa Rican twice missing the target with headers after being left completely unmarked from corners.

Ironically enough, goalscorer Philipp Lahm looked Germany's best defender, despite his surging runs forward and constant menace in attack.

But on a positive note for Klinsmann, Lahm looks to be living up to his reputation as a world-class left-back, and Torsten Frings had a sensational game holding the midfield together.

Bastian Schweinsteiger was always dangerous when on the ball, and Miroslav Klose showed why he's regarded so highly with two goalscorer's finishes, but Lukas Podolski looked worryingly out of depth against an average opponent.

a very good game..

Germany needs to do a lot better if they think of reaching somewhere in this worldcup considering their defence.

but after is the end result.. and they got the 3pts

Kahn might replace Lehmann in the game vs Poland, since Lehmann is unjured
