Default Football Transfer News - 28th May 2009

Juventus have signed Brazilian playmaker Diego from Werder Bremen in a £21.5 million deal.

Diego helped steer Werder to the UEFA and German Cup finals this season with some exhilarating performances, which also attracted interest from Bayern Munich.
He was suspended for Werder's 2-1 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA final but hopes to finish his stint at the club on a high with victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the German Cup final on Saturday.
Diego joined Werder from Porto in 2006.
"I'm enthusiastic about Juventus and proud to become part of such a prestigious club, which I have dreamed about since I was a child," Diego told the Turin club's website.
"After the experiences in Portugal and in the Bundesliga I will be able to measure up to football of a very high level in a difficult and very competitive championship.
"It's the right time in my career to make such an important step and I'm convinced that with Juventus I'll achieve great results."
Diego's arrival is aimed at filling the gap created by Pavel Nedved's expected retirement.
Juve also hope Diego can spur them to success in the Champions League and on the home front next season.
Claudio Ranieri's failure to do so cost the coach his job last week.
Juventus, who are currently in the hands of caretaker boss Ciro Ferrara, also have a deal to bring Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro back from Real Madrid despite widespread supporter opposition.
The 35-year-old centre back, soon out of contract at Real, left for Spain in 2006 when Juve were demoted for match-fixing, while other top players such as Alessandro Del Piero and Gianluigi Buffon stuck with the club for their season in the second tier.

Record Ronaldo bid accepted

Manchester United have received a world-record, unconditional offer of £80million for Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.

At Cristiano's request - who has again expressed his desire to leave - and after discussion with the player's representatives, United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player.

Matters are expected to be conclud
ed by 30 June. The club will not comment until further notice.

Official Manchester United website.

Platini should do something about those huge money transfers they're becoming really ridiculous.

...and Florentino Perez in just about 1 week, managed to get both : Kaka' and Ronaldo. Imagine their striking force next season. That being said, they need to concentrate on strengthening their defense, and possibly get 1 new winger, if they plan to play a 4-2-31 formation. They wanted Ribery, but it doesn't seem that Bayern will sell him, they might get Villa by the way according to the Rumors. I guess we'll have to wait and see what they are up to, the transfer window hasn't even opened yet they managed to get 2 star players.

A little something about the Dzeko-Milan rumors. Galliani previously said that they have contacted them(Dzeko and his Agent), Dzeko has expressed his desire to come since Milan are his favorite club, but Wolfsburg don't want to let him go. Galliani replied the following.

Adriano Galliani: Milan May Drop Interest In Wolfsburg Star Edin Dzeko
The Rossoneri CEO has admitted they are ready to turn to other objectives.

Milan’s initial bid for Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko has been turned down and general manager Adriano Galliani has now fired a warning shot to the Bundesliga champions.

“If they don’t change their stance, we will turn to other objectives,” the transfer guru told Sky Italia.

Yesterday, Wolfsburg vice president Stephan Gruehsem insisted that the Serbian international is not for sale and they will not release him “even if the Galactica Football Club shows up”.

But it is suggested that the Volkswagen-owned side are simply playing hardball to get a bigger transfer fee.

Milan have reportedly tabled an offer of €22 million and are prepared to add the services of either Dida or Kakhaber Kaladze to the deal. However, Wolfsburg are holding out for €30m in cash.

Should a deal for Dzeko fail to materialise, Sport Mediaset suggests Milan will turn to Bayern Munich and Italy striker Luca Toni and could swoop for Cameroonian hitman Samuel Eto’o next season, when his contract with Barcelona is due to expire.

Jasper, agree with you brother. Its becoming a joke the amount of money being spent and thrown.

La liga is strenghtening itself with real, and epl is already strong..
serie a is the most suffering.

The problem is that when the best talents leave the Italian clubs to the foreign clubs the consequence is that the big Italian clubs buy the talent of the smaller Italian clubs...

the difference between italian big clubs and italian smaller clubs is kept or even increased and on the other hand the difference between the foreign big clubs and the Italian big clubs also increased.

About the money issue, Galliani contacted Platini and complained about the ridiculous amount of money being payed. The later said that he might put a rule in 2/3 years which will only allow the clubs to get players from their own budget... thus they can't have any debts and such..and their presidents can't fuel them will money..which would KILL teams like Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Inter since the amount of debts they have is way too much.

Well, the Top 4 in Italy at the moment are not as good as the Top 4 in England that's a certainty, but if you take a look at the mid table teams they're doing quite well especially in the transfer market, Genoa sold Motta and Milito but they had one hell of bargain, they won much more than they lost. Take a look at Napoli, they signed Cigarini and Fabio Quagrilla(spell?), which are good signings. As long as the likes of Parma keep producing, the mid table teams in Italy are safe, in my opinion Italy has the best mid table teams in all of the leagues.

Problem with Serie A is the financial part and the rules in the league. The taxes on the players wages and all is way too ridiculous, it must change. + In order for the clubs to be able to compete once again they have to build their own stadiums..thats a must that they simply can't avoid. Italy has this rule of not allowing the clubs to give contracts to Under 18 Foreigners, which is good only if it is applied world wide. + They are only allowed to get 2 NON-EU spots per year, but from the recent comments the rule might be changed..which will allow Milan to buy Dzeko and Hernanes in addition to Thiago Silva whom they already bought. But Serie is getting better, since from the season of 2010/2011 Serie A will no longer be connected to Serie B, and the league will be similar to that of the EPL, which will help the clubs.

This year it looks like Serie A will look at the German clubs, Diego first and know Dzeko might come. Problem is, they should start to trust the youngsters, and not loan most of them out.

La Liga has only Real madrid And Barcelona, the first can only compete if they bring an additional 2 quality players. Where as the rest aren't top teams, well yes..Villareal are good...Athletic Madrid are good....Seville is good, but the rest are terrible at best. + The league is way too open defensively.

Which team do you support, by the way?

Agree with ur post. I support Roma :D
You raised all of the problems in serie a this days..

Taxes on players in Italy is around 50 %. In Spain its much lower then that. This is ofcourse sthg that should change.
For stadiums, AS Roma is already building their own stadium.I think lazio are doing the same as well, but am no sure.
The Under 18 players are also an issue to be solved. Macheda, lupoli, giuseppe rossi... many players stolen from english teams ..

Then there is the 2 non-eu players which is ridiculous. Inter loaned julio cesar, maxwell in the past because they couldnt afford to play them.

Serie A has to improve its performance in european competitions, because in UEFA coefficients GERMANY Is closing on them. And if they do, in the future they will end up with 3 teams in CL only.

What you said is all completely accurate!
It is really bad to see that someone like Macheda who was regarded highly went to England because of those stupid rules, they must change.

The thing that makes me wonder, is that Berlusconi can change all that if he wants...he's the PM...he controls the country, yet he's not doing much about it. He should do though.
Bad refereeing has also killed the season. Inter Milan got so much refereeing on their side, that according to some statistics they would have ended 4th if they didn't.

About Roma, are the Sensi family going to sell the club? Any players close to signing for Roma?

stefano(??) Guberti is signing for roma. I think he has been called the maradona of serie b , not sure.
Sensis are not selling. Some years back there were rumours nafta moskva will buy roma, in the end it ended with no selling. Last year, it was huge george soros saga and it ended with soros not buying. This years its the same..
every year huge rumours come at the end of season about sensis selling roma, and it ends up with nthg

I think with roma missing out on CL, We need to definetly sell players before buying. We are going to miss out on the CL money ( about 30 million)..
I have feeling one of our center backs juan or mexes gets sold.
