Correct, it should have been left alone. After all, that place of worship should have been left untouched or even rebuilt.

I adore it when ppl try to support their arguments by resorting to hypothetical scenarios and sentences starting with "if".

Dark Angel, I tried to take pictures in the Wadi Abu Jmil area, because there are a lot of entersting buildings, including the ones that were destroyed... Guards forbid me to take pictures, and even threatened to report me...

Once, I wanted to visit a friend that lives to the south of Wadi Abu Jmil, and I had to walk through all the width of the area... I got interrogated 4 times just be cause I was walking there!

Another time, I tried to sneak pictures of the synaguoge, even with my cell phone camera... A guard that was hidden in a small kiosk spoted me and started yelling and forced me to delete the picture!

So these are not rumors, they're facts... I dont understand why you find this surprising, when you know the militia attitude of the Hariri controlled areas...

UL, these houses belonged to lebanese jews, they have nothing to do with Israel!

Please dont mix those two... The lebanese jews were probably the most nationalistic in the entire arab world, they were always reluctant to leave Lebanon, and only a very small minority of them went to Israel...

You have to know that lebanon's jewish community was the only one in the arab world that continued growing even after the creation of Israel... They started leaving only after the civil war started... And a significant number of them are still here in Lebanon, because they are attached to this country, and feel no need to go elsewhere... As for the ones who left, most emigrated to the countries where the lebanese brothers from other communities left, Brasil, Canada, France, the USA, etc...

They were not an eyesore, and were not rotten either... They were very fine, and well preserved examples of Lebanese urban architecture of the 1930's ...

They even were classified in the list of protected traditional buildings because they were very significant architecturally... Destroying them wasnt even legal!

I'll post pictures of them later on...

PS: the synaguoge wasnt destroyed... Only the buildings next to it...

Nothing happens in the Harriri Kitchen without the concent of their Jewish/Neo partners. So I think its a joint agreement between the two parties to destroy that building to build a something better.

Besides it a building, Neo Hariries have destroyed the whole countries infrastrucutre and economy so why do we have to care for a jewish building is it more important than other lebanese building.

it is of the same importance.....at the end of the day the jews who lived there are Lebanese......

During the Israeli invasion in 1982 the Israelis bombed their area to force them to leave Lebanon. The Lebanese jews are attached to Lebanon and not to Israel.
