Syria official hails Clinton on Obama team

Published: Dec. 3, 2008 at 8:40 PM

DAMASCUS, Syria, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- U.S. President-elect Barack Obama's choice of Hillary Clinton as secretary of state should help build peace in the Middle East, an official Syrian source says.

In a report published Wednesday, the source stressed the importance of Clinton's presence to the resuscitation of the Israeli-Syrian peace talks, Ynet.news.com said.

The Syrian official also commended Clinton for her commitment to "render the U.S. a power for positive change" in the world by cooperating with the international community to solve global crises.

Syrian President Bashar Assad stated earlier that Washington has begun to send "clear signals" to Damascus with plans to return a U.S. ambassador to Syria in early 2009.

Default 7th December 2008

keeping Gates as Secretary of defense means that Obama will most likely respect the Hamilton-Gates report.

in addition, Carter's visit to Syria in the next month is also a positive change in attitude...

however, nothing is set yet...
the team surrounding Obama is not to be trusted to be looking for negotiations and to relinquish the hawkish methods of hte Bush era..

for example, there are talks of Dennis Ross to have a high position.. Ross is very close to the israelis and famous for his aggressive anti-iranian, anti-syrian positions...

on the other hand, there are talks in the media, actually more criticism to OBama to stay away from these hostile politicians....
i am looking for the day when the US administration wakes up and realizes that the number enemy to humanity is not Iran, Syria, Israel, Lebanon, China or Russia.. but it is actually Saudi Arabia...
